Managed to drop my Nikon 17-55 last night :bang:

I'm going to drop it off at Fixation tomorrow morning, but wanted to know if anyone had any previous experience of this repair, and if the part is a relatively quick job to repair?

The part that is broken is the raised metal surround part around the back element.

Aha, if it was the 18-55 I'd just buy a replacement, but it's a 17-55 f/2.8 :bang::bang::bang:

If it's the black part without the electrical contacts it's straightforward enough, you just unscrew the screws around it and it lifts out, which also releases the black bit with the contacts. If it's the bit with the contacts that's damaged, might be a bit tougher as there's a ribbon cable coming from that which may involve some soldering...

The bayonet? Simple and cheap.

Actually Nikon seem to be replacing these as a matter of course if you send a pro len in for pretty much anything.

Turns out the zoom is also stiff... yikes. I've dropped it off with the good folk at Fixation so we'll see.

If you are talking about the black collar - then I got a quote of about £12 including delivery for a new one for a different lens. However, it seems the stiff zoom takes it up a level. Fingers crossed it is not too expensive for you.

Thanks, it's an unwelcome expense so I appreciate the sentiment.
