Nikon have released the updated version of their free editing software, now called ViewNX 2.

I have had a brief play with it, it is an improvement on the old ViewNX, but that was not difficult. It now has cropping and straightening and some basic video editing. It runs a lot faster on my 6 year old laptop (the old ViewNX was painfully slow).

It is quite amusing to see how they have tried to emulate the look of Lightroom.

All in all a much needed update of free editing software for Nikon users, and of course it can recognise all the in camera settings, unlike 3rd party software. Editing is still very basic, but should be OK for beginners, and it is free.

Just had a quick play with the video editing. It is very basic, some transitions and trimming clips is about it, no adjustments for exposure, contrast etc.

You can then save the movie as two different varieties of H264 or the original MJPEG. If you save as MJPEG, it does not appear to do any re-encoding, although it does give a .mov extension, not .avi as the original MJPEG clips

Of course it is. they want you to pay for NX2 capture for that.:(
 
Does Capture NX2 even do video editing?

I'm a Lightroom user, so don't use Capture NX2.

Still, its free and old View NX could not do any video editing at all.

My bad, no it doesn't. Note to self. I need to read slowly.:bonk:
 
Capture NX2 is all I use, it has no video ability that I know of, but has some bugs that need sorting.
