It's fairly well known that most Nikon cameras can't "see" the RAW files from another model Nikon (D3 won't see D2x raw for example) despite them being the same prefix .NEF.
I found an interesting anomaly to this recently, the Fuji S5 pro seems to be able to see all the raw files, strange a different make (admittedly a D200 copy) can see files the own brand can't. Wayne

When I swap cards from my 350D to 30D, or vice versa, they can be seen in camera but when I connect to the PC any from the 'other' body come up as question marks in the software to download the pictures onto my PC, but once on the hard drive they are fine :S

With the Fuji can you alter the pixel count (ie at higher ISO do you lose some pixels)? Is the only reason I can think of why other bodies don't 'understand' each other

Actually the S5 Pro is reading the embedded JPEG not the RAW per se.

I noticed this a while ago,you can even copy a D60 NEF from an SD Card to the S5 Pro's CF card and it'll render it just fine.

good ole fuji

love my s5 and IR converted s3

Odd the Nikons can't see the embedded JPEG as well, and a pain, theres a very real danger of thinking a cards empty and formatting it. Wayne

Funnily enough I noticed that a couple of days ago, but I thought I must have made a mistake...

I've not tried this, but the D700 and D300 create their own folders on the cards - so they only read from the xxxND700 or xxxND300 folders. As the camera is only reading the embedded jpeg, it's possible you can copy NEF files between folders and then they are displayable? Quite why you'd want to do so I don't know!
