Nikon problems again - Problem identified, now seek a new body!!! (maybe)

I started a thread a while back about my 80-200mm f2.8 nikon lens. It was coming up with the FEE message. The lens has been back to Nikon, fixed and returned to me. Great.

So I attached the lens, same ******* problem. Is it the body that is knackered?? It works with all the other lenses I use no problems, just not this one.
Any ideas?

Ive checked shutter actuations on the camera to see if has passed its shooting lilits, and it on 32,000. I didnt think that was too much? May be wrong though.

Not wanting to state an obvious answer but just checking, is the aperture ring on the lens set to 22? if not set it there and lock it if possible
 
Have you got another body to try it on?

Try that first, failing that try another body to see if it does the same

Yea, its set to 22. I havnt got another body to try it on unfortunately. But all my other lenses work fine. I also has a problem with a sigma 70-300mm lens aswell, that was a while ago, but put it down to the lens. Is there a setting on the body that could have changed??

The D200 is good for 100,000+ so i think your within the limits:thumbs:
 
There is an issue with the 80-200 on the D200 and D300, but it usually brings up an ◄f6 message on the top lcd, rather than fEE
 
Whats the issue? There must be some connection between the 80-200 fault and the sigma 70-300. Someone must know
 
It's to do with the lens moving on the mount and causing an interruption to the the electrical connection, I found it was happening when I was doing a lot of panning. I was convinced either the lens or body were faulty, but I came across an article online describing the exact symptoms I was experiencing and it seems it is a common occurrence with the D300/80-200 combo.

One of the other photographers up at Knockhill bought the same set-up and last time I spoke to him he was experiencing exactly the same error message in the same situation.....

The D80 also has/had similar issues with other lenses, so it looks like a Nikon weak point

What would you suggest then? Maybe try a new body? Or a new lens??

I will be meeting a friend on a rally with a d300 on saturday, so will try it there.
 
I would be interested to know this too as I now have exactly the same combo of 80-200 and D300, out of interest is yours the push pull/two ring or AF-S model as that could possibly be connected too?

I have the AF-S model. Cant see why it worked on my d200 origionally and not now. There must be something to explain it.
 
What do Nikon say they fixed on the return paperwork?
 
Loose fitting zoom grip rubber
Apeture ring allignment
Cgeck and clean lens

Exactly the same as before I sent it.
 
Just been on the phone to a very helpful Nikon serviceman. He talked me through a few things on the camera, and still had no luck, we have however figures out the problem. There is a little lever on the camera body that sits just behind the apeture ring, this controls the apeture from the body. This has a small fault, as it works now and again then goes back to the origional fault. So I may send the body back to Nikon or just upgrade the camera. Unless anyone has a spare d200 for sale?
 
I hope they didn't charge you for an unnecessary lens repair then?!
