also...

would this duo plus my 24-70mm lens be considered as a 'must kit' for doing weddings? i think i have convinced mysel that they are and feel i must purchase these immediately!!!! lol either someone stop me now or advice me i do need them all and i am doing the right thing, in saying all this i have used only my 24-70 for doing weddings and manage great with it on its own would like to keep my options open thou ... what uns think??

please advice ;)

85mm f/1.8 won't do much damage to the wallet, and should deliver the goodies. 105mm Macro is very useful one.

When you get 70-200/2.8 you will see that it can do nearly everything well enough, with creamy out of focus areas and sharp subject.

thanks :) sorry but is that nikon or sigma? i already have a macro lens (sigma 2.8 18-50mm macro) would this do the job for a macro? really have'nt a notion about lenses but starting to get a bit of knowledge on them with looking throu threads...

Thats not a macro lens, just a close focus lens. A true macro lens is usually a prime lens, and focuses down to 1:1. Your 18-50 probably goes to 1:3 at best.

A true macro lens is the Sigma 105mm f/2.8, Sigma 60mm, sigma 150mm, Tamron 90mm f/2.8, Nikon 105mm f/2.8 plus more.

The Nikon 105mm makes a nice portrait lens also.
The Nikon 85mm f/1.8 is very nice, perfect for portraits on an FX body

hey tom thanks for that really helps. think il go for the 85mm and get the 70 - 200. umm confused ..on my sigma lens it actually printed on the lens itself macro that made he think it was!! is this lens any good to me now if i buy the lens reccomended or should i sell as its hardly been used!

If you own the 24-70 and a macro prime lens then the sigma 18-50 will only be useful as a wide angle for 18-24.

Its says macro, but it isnt. Its one of those marketing things manufactures seem to like doing. Its close focusing, but not macro in the true sense of the word.

Another thought, isnt the sigma 18-50 a DC lens, not made for full frame? Or do you use it on DX crop mode?

well the little buggars!!! there me thinking it was macro all along. yeap its a DC lens i used it on my D80. should i try and sell it on (if its even appealing to people that is) or keep it??
