Yes
hi guys once again, looking at getting my new camera monday, i have a choice of

nikon d700, d7000

or canon 60d,7d

i have roughly 1800-2k to spend, this also has to cover memoery card and lenses. 1: 50mm lens, a decent zoom lens, mainly be shooting sports. but ill also be using it to record videos and make edit for bmx and skateboarders.

i also use burst shot when shooting stills. so the more fps the better :)

I am rather confused with your post
you say that your camera choice and include a Nikon D800 which itself costs over two grand and on the next line you say the budget is £1800-2000 which has to cover all the extras
so in essence you wont be including the D800 with your current budget

and just for the record I dont think you would be unhappy with any of the camera's you have suggested

You're going to get a lot of responses but if video is your bag, you will need a camera that can shoot 60fps for when you want to slow down the footage.

24/30fps is pants for no good for slow no.

If I had the chance and the money...I'd be going with the D800 which can be looked at as 3 cameras in one and is the best of the bunch for high ISO and video.

Don't know if this is a wind up, anyway....

D800 shouldn't be on there for budget or FPS, D700 does not have video and will be replaced soon with the D600 (that wont be out by Monday).
D7000 is great unless you need FF?

It really makes no difference with brands, just go to store and see what feels right for you....

Does it have to be Canon or Nikon?

The sony a57 has 12fps burst mode and can shoot full hd video at 50fps. Can be had for around £580 leaving you plently left for accessories.

Fast Primes, just depends on how wide you shoot?

iv never used a prime, i geuss running 50mm is enough. but then for my stills would like to use a zoom, to grab the shots which i cant get right in the for

Depends on the level your trying to aspire too, as zooms are not recommended for video. For stills, sorry cant help you with best zoom options from canon.

do you mainly video ?

Not primarily, although I have no doubt I will be using it more and more especially with my recent purchase.

Its far more of a natural progression once you are comfortable with photography

Not with a comment like that I suspect. Prime lenses are used for very limited purposes during video production and in the main zooms are used.

How to achieve that cinematic look, feel and great DOF range with a zoom?

not to mention better low light ability.

OK i'll breakdown further, if a serious shoot for film then primes. If run and gun shooting zooms.

How about recommending him a lens?

Serious? Almost all video production is done with a zoom, unless (as I said) a very specific effect is required; extreme DoF, Tilt and Shift etc etc.

Why would you use a prime when

a) You are almost always shooting at apertures that make it pointless
b) The resolution in most decent zooms is more than a match for HD
c) It's impractical

?

As for which lens, that depends on the focal length desired for the given subject, but a combination of a 24-70 and 70-200 should suit most occasions, with one major proviso...

...it should always be constant aperture.

Why nikon, my experience with the d90 wasn't great for any video development, mainly because of the 25fps, the picture quality was good. But after having my hands on a canon 7d last week the images was phenomenal, along with the video quality. So for me the sub 2k camera I'll be going with is canon, mainly as the d800 is out of my budget and it using a slower fps with in video is the other reason. The canon ticks all the boxes for me. Maybe it is A 3 year old tech but for the price that I'm looking at I don't mind. I'll probably be using it for the next three years. Then I'll upgrade the body to a ff camera with video.

The only thing I need now are some recommendations of a 50mm lens and maybe a 18-135 lens kit. Which all fits into my 2k budget.

Why ask the question of Nikon or Canon bodies when it sounds like you made your mind up last week?

Because I was still goin through whic one I should buy. Allot of people here and on the web have said the canon 7d is perfect for video and all round shooting. So I decided this evening. I just need a phew recommendation of a 50mm lens and a focal lens.

You can't put the D90 in the same conversation as the 7D for video - the D90 was shockingly bad!!

D7000 was a HUGE step up.

I would agree with that for what you need. It's a cracker of a body and would suit you perfectly.

Have a look at the new Canon 650D, it's a videographers dream. With the new STM lenses being released for it it will only get better. It's pretty good in low light, has a decent frame rate and a flip out touchscreen that wont wobble the camera on a tripod when slightly touched. It would only take about a quarter of your budget too, leaving plenty left for lenses, cards and other accessories.

Iv had a look at the 650d but the touch screen is to me just a gimik, in theory you shouldn't need to touch or adjust the camera when videoing, the only part I would loved would of been the flip screen on the 7d so i can really get down low but if has no problems at all before. Also the dual processor unit should be on par with the 650d or better, even tho it's the older tech. Further more the 7d has more fps when shooting which for me will be superb as Ill be shooting fast action sports.
