hey all,

ok so i have decided to give infrared photography a go, its always been an intrest of mine (actually what started to get me interested in photography in a serios way). So i thought id buy a cheap second hand camera, and have a go at converting one, (taking the infrared filter out).
i have done my reserch, and found verious sights with how to do this, and the common idea seems to be, that its easier to do on nikon cameras, which being a canon person...i konw nothing about.

ive had a look around at verious second hand shops, (thanks to the list on TP, :):) ), and narowed it down to these:

with my money, i could get either
a D1x
a D100
a D70
or
a D50,

any opinions on any of these cameras, or any comparisons would be more then helpfull.
the type of photography they would be needed for would be landscape photography.

thanks:):)
all opinions wanted

Why not look at one of the old Fuji S-series bodies, which were basically Nikon F4s? Dirt cheap on ebay

The D100 is a nice camera. Not very fast (burst / read / write) but it has very good low ISO performance for its age. It is based on the old Nikon F80 35mm SLR camera body.

The D50/D70 seems a popular choice for IR conversions... If I ever go down that route, I'd plump for a D50 personally:)

D70! I love mine!

:)hey all,
thanks for quick replies, the sigma sd-14, does look like a great option, but is unfortunatly out of my price range(250), the sd-10 is under however, so has given me a very tempting offer, however the croped sensor (1.7x) isnt overly convinsing (i could be wrong here, might be great),
thanks for all your replies!, the more the better:)

unsure if its in the price point but i was told that the nikon d40 is better for IR photography due to something to do with the way it filters IR i could be wrong but im sure some clever nikonian will be along to set me straight :)

go with the d50,its cheaper and to be honest you aint going to be using it a lot..so it will be a great little workhorse for what you want..

if you've already got canon gear then it makes sense to convert a canon body surely? i've seen 350ds been converted fairly easily
