I always thought that the f/1.4D had more blades than the f/1.8D, giving it a more aesthetic bokeh?

Looking on Nikon's website I notice that both have 7 blades (not the new AF-S). So is the bokeh not different? Has the number of blades changed?
 
No, the AF-D has 7 which is one of the reasons for the average bokeh.

Nikon have only been getting interested in bokeh recently and going from 7 or 8 to 9 quite recently.

(the 85mm f/1.4 was an early 9 blader)
 
Interesting, that's my memory going as well now then... I thought I was just going grey :shake:
