Nikon mirrorless definitely on the way

Looks brilliant TBH! I think it's the best looking mirror-less to date but accept that is a personal thing - lens adaptor looks like it may have a motor in it?

Under £2500 for the Z6 and comes with a battery charger and it will keep all their existing users.

Still reminds me a lot of the G9 - looks comfy ergonomically,

But no screw-drive coupling.

Hi Hoppy,

Picture of adaptor in link is showing the back of the adaptor (face that mounts to camera) - the screw drive would only be visible from the front (face that mounts to lens). Focus motor in adaptor would be controlled by the electronic contacts

Oops! You're right

Hard to know about the adapter yet as the pic show the rear. Have to wait for more details and pics.

I think the cameras look good and typically Nikon. There is a lot of talk of the rear LCD not being as large as anticipated, and has a large asymmetrical bezel, but until there are pics of it switched on, it is hard to know if there is anything, buttons/info in the bezel area.

I'm still working the mount out to be about 56mm, which is quite large if correct.

I was hoping not too like it but I like the look of that. 35mm 1.8 from the off. It’s like Nikon have been watching the Sony thread too see what people want!

Got the ‘nipple’ that the D500 has. Useful addition.

So far so good.

Rough size comparison to the Sony a7III. Depth of body seems pretty similar. If I have got it right. ;) I lined up the flash mounts and the Sony's is more central, hence more body on the grip side for the Nikon.

A chap called Astro Landscapes on Nikon Rumo(u)rs did this head on comparison between Nikon D850 (yellow), Z6/7 and Sony a7III (orange).

Looks good size wise. And grip looks to be good. Although reserve judgment until I have held one.

Nice to still have a top screen and controls look well laid out.

But now we wait for specs. I’m interested in FPS, how the EVF performs in burst etc.

And then the price...

Be impressed if that adapator works with all Nikon lenses inc D ones.

Looks good to me, now for Canon. ;)

Any news when their one is coming? They should have an advantage as the M5/M50 is a good starting point.

Be interested to see all the competition before deciding to go Nikon/Sony/Canon.

I’m ashamed to say - love it.... the lcd screen on the top - not sure what the terminology is, but the reverse / black effect is so cool I’m sold on that alone! I thought the lenses were meant to be more compact - the 50 1.8 looks a little large considering how compact their other 50’s are.

Love the u1 through 3 and the dedicated display button. Very useful. I know canon have had u1-3 for ages but it’s nice to be back with the pack :D

Still - it looks really really nice.

Pics might make them look bigger than they are. Will see how they look when mounted!

Top screen does look really nice.

Small thing but I like the lens release button being on that side. On the Sony when changing a lens such as the 70-200 its quite fiddly and tight to get to the lens release button on the grip side.

Saying that, I will see what the prices are like and then decide what my next move is!

They appear to have just added distance to the rear of their current lens designs, I personally find that disappointing.

Not that I’d be buying the Nikon, but if Nikon and Sony have both decided they don’t need to build small lenses, Canon aren’t going to bother either. :(

No black out. Class leading sensor and overall first mirrorless ff camera
I have come to learn if you cut out all the marketing hype and BS you'll basically be left with something that's at most on same level as competition. This is generally case in most electronics not just cameras.

But sometimes someone does end up making something truly different and/or a fair bit better. I am hoping this Nikon is going to be that. It'll give Sony and canon something to aim for.
The Nikon does seem to have got the different part going pretty well, not sure it'll be better or just different.

Same applies to Sony also. If you cut all the "Sony keeps innovating" BS you'll notice they only caught up to DSLR AF standard recently. Nikon still gets better performance out of Sony sensors. Nikon is more innovative in optics department with PF designs etc. Sony still makes huge glass and not much innovative solutions on optics front. So it's not all peachy and amazing in Sony land either. Same marketing BS.

Same as the Sony 1.8 - has the distance thing. But if this is how they keep costs down for the buyer then there has to be a compromise somewhere.

No focus light on the front?

One less thing I have to turn off

Edit - there is something under the control dial that looks like an LED or something.

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that one of the advantages of mirrorless was the lens was closer to the sensor - I think I read it on a forum.... anyway - if there is no advantage to distance to the sensor and the manufactures are making the bodies smaller and the lenses longer, ergo no change, then what really is the advantage of mirrorless over slr, except the exclusion of a mirror?
I know there are lots of brand specific features that are available such as eye af - which I imagine could be achieved through live view and a firmware upgrade - the electronic view finder splits opinion, some like it and some don't. I personally don't like it and find the simulated exposure not a necessary feature as I already have a good idea as to what the image is going to look like based on light and metering readings.

That could be the IR receiver for a remote control, unless they're going to force us to use the hugely expensive wireless remote trigger like some of their pro bodies.

Actually that 35mm does look shorter than the current 1.8g I think.
