Does anyone have experience of the above?

I'm considering a remote shutter release for my D200 and this looks good, if not a bit pricey at 100 notes from Amazon!

It,s entirely up to whether you want quality (but pay through the nose for it)
Or buy a cheap one off e-bay , I bought a wireless one and normal cable for around £46 from HK I think (while ago) and both still working m8.

Bit cheaper than I remembered.HERE

I read the write up and liked the sound of the bulb shutter release thingy this gizmo will apparently do.

tbh with the D70 (that was devoid of a remote shutter release!) I just used the timer...always seemed to work for me!

Devoid of a remote shutter release, I'm not sure what you mean

I didn't even know it had a timer, I always used the......errr....remote...errr...shutter release.

I have a phottix wireless one, I've had it 6 months and used it once, so its been totally reliable
There are a few models, one has rubber pads as buttons, didn't like the look of those so I spent slightly more on one with real 18 carat plastic buttons, still only £20 mind..

I've got one. Went through the same thought process as yourself. With hindsight I may just as well bought something a lot cheaper as I've never used any of the features on it.

Nikon do make some great kit, but some of the accessories are way overpriced. This being one of them IMO.

I mean the ability to plug a cable release into it, I had one of those wireless remote thingys but I could never get it to work

I believe they added the function for a cabled remote on the D70s.

I've a feeling I'd end up in the same position! What attracts me is the ability to do the bulb bit...what I mean is setting shutter to bulb and then holding down the shutter release to get a nice flowing water or nighttime fairground type blurred motion shots. But when I think about that, you'd be able to do that with the cheaper ones, wouldn't you? :bonk:

I use an MC 35 (think thats the name) wired remote release when I don't need to be far from the camera but when I need wireless triggering I use a RF shutter relase that I got from Hong Kong via the Bay. It works uo to about about 60 foot away, will send the signal through obstacles (so direct line of sight is not needed) and isn't affected by strong sunlight...best of all, £15 delivered! That was my solution instead of paying over the odds for Nikons setup.

The MC-36 is just short of a hundred notes on Amazon. Think I'll stick to the timer function until I save up a bit!

Look at a Phottix Cleon N8?

Its wired, wireless and has the bulb setting.

Gets good reviews!

The £15 chinese eBay versions do bulb as well - at least mine does. I don't have the 'manual' in front of me, but I do remember it telling you how to do it.

Texy

David, I bought a remote shutter release for my D200 off of Ebay which plugs in and has all the controls of a normal shutter with hold etc.

Works a treat and I think i paid about £6 for it

Yep, on the phottix one I put up a lead to,for bulb you press once to start and press again when you want to stop....simple:naughty:

You're absolutely right David, fancy that, I had a D70s the D70...didn't have one ?...eh...wtf
Anyway, nevermind that, Puddleduck's got it, Phottix WRC-N8, tidy thing, manual operation or wireless, £20 from Hong Kong, can't recommend the seller though, they sent me a D70 one first and then went on to arse me about with a d200 grip they didn't actually have in stock

That's absolutely correct, the D70 didn't have one! :(

I was a bit miffed when the D70s came out and it had one!

Popped into Jessops today and bought a Hahnel HRN-280 for 25 notes, will see how that goes.

I got the Phottix Cleon remote off Ebay about 6 months ago, and have been very happy with it when I've used it. I bought it for the D200, and it works fine on the D300 too. :)

It can be used wired or wireless. I always use the wireless. Best not to touch the camera at all imho. ;)

There were some problems with people getting the wrong version delivered at the time I got mine, but I think this was the Ebay seller's suppliers putting stuff in the wrong boxes. I haven't heard any probs since then, and mine was delivered correctly. :)
