Hello all, the VR has ceased working on my Nikon DX 55-200mm and I wondered if anything can be done to restore it ? I know there is a warning about taking it off the camera without first switching off both the lens and camera and this may be the reason! Thanks. Mick

If it's failed completely then I'm guessing the lens is due a trip to Nikon for repair :(

Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news.

Thanks Steve, I think I'll sell my metal detector etc and save up for a new lens
as I have a Sigma 18-200 which is quite good but weaker at the 200 end.

It's at least worth a call to Nikon service to see what they say before you write the lens off.

To be honest, given the lens can be bought for little more than £100 (last time I looked) it won't be cost effective to fix.

If it was caused by removing the lens whilst VR is active (which is virtually impossible in normal use) then simply taking the lens off and putting it back on should fix it.

I can see the point of the cost of repair being more than a new lens. I've Emailed Nikon in an attempt to establish the cost. Wish I were rich, as it is, I might go for a Sigma 70-300 or
if I can be patient, save for a Nikon 70-300.
