Nikon K mount?

Hi all.

Just a question (probably for the older school folks)

I have been given a sigma 70-210 lens (well it was about a year ago and hardly used it because i shortly afterwards bought a 70-210 F2.8) , so looking to maybe pass it on ) for my nikon D70.

Now the lens is labeled SIGMA ZOOM AF- K a:4 ~ 5.6 lens which I beleive is a pentax mount. but it fits on my nikon and works perfectly well (have taken shots with it and there are no problems, autofocuses etc )


Can anybody just enlighten me here, did nikon have K mount at some point or was it maybe mis labeled (seems a bit unusual) or is it maybe simply that pentax lenses fit nikons?
 
I've used Nikon since 1971 and it's always been a nikon 'F' mount - I DON'T THINK THERE HAS EVER BEEN ANYTHING ELSE.
 
its defianlty a K, and defiantly works ?
 
It's possible that the lens was converted at some point. If it's a Nikon mount now then the mounting plate on the back of the lens will look quite deep. The lens to film plane (registration distance) of Pentax bodies is quite short when compared to Nikon bodies. I would suspect that the distance scale will read incorrectly on a converted lens.

sure, I will take a couple of photos of it, and with it tonight when i get home.

have already taken some with, but not got them with me lol
