Nikon - if it wasn't for bad luck.........

Oh dear... hope no-one was hurt.

I guess the chap in the thread earlier who couldn't decide between a D3100 and D90 had better decide quickly.

to pardon the pun - it seems that with Nikon at the moment it doesn't rain it pours....

 No doubt that ebay prices will have a rise in prices now - if they aren't OTP already....

Nikon aren't the only ones. Production of the new Sony A77 has also been hit. The factory is ok but people can't get there to work because of the floods.

So that's another 6 people who won't get their new camera :D

Maybe its time the big guns brought some of their manufacturing back to places like errmmm... the UK :) It's not good to have all your eggs in one basket as it seeems...

Shortage of new Nikons......I have just the solution in the run-up to Christmas; a battered D2x with 100,000 clicks - I'll set pricing at two grand :)

Those big Japanese camera companies used to do lots of uk manufacture then?

It was a general comment about all manufacturers :) Many have all their eggs (or at least a lot of their eggs) in Asia... If you're a worldwide brand - maybe it makes sense to have manufacturing across different parts of the world.. Yes it's more expensive in the UK granted..

Not that they used to make them here by any means - more of a 'they should consider expanding their manufacturing base' - and make the UK a manufacturer once more.... (Instead of the service industry culture that we seem to have developed)..

Anyway - was just a passing comment on the thread :) not a mass debate :)

Is it true Nikon has relocated all of the machinery from their professional camera factory in Sendai, Japan to Malaysia?.

Some places are more prone to natural disasters, but we also have our fair share in the UK - it's just exactly as the title, bad luck. More to the point, I hope the workers & the local area are recovering and getting through it.

Right thats a 5 point infraction for selling outside of the classifieds.

Maybe they should have had their production facilities upstairs ?
this would then enable their office admin equipment to be easily replaced.
