Hi, When you say you want to fit a lens cap to your lens hood, presumably you mean when the hood has been reversed onto the lens after use.

If this is what you want to do then the standard lens cap for the "Nikon 105mm F2.5 AI" is 52mm as was all early Nikon lenses.

Hope this helps.

Hi there, What I meant by fitting a lens cap to hood, was that before you can fit the hood to the lens you need to remove the 52mm cap from the lens, then clip in the hood. If you leave the hood in place, the right way around, all the time, you can then fit a larger clip in cap to the front of the hood.

If you have a centre pinch cap you should be able to still fit it to the lens with the hood in place.

If you have a side pinch cap it is extremely difficult to get the cap in, so I would buy a replacement centre pinch one which is what I have just done for my 35-70mm 2.8.

Hope this helps.

Why do you want to do this? I take the cap off before I start using the camera, and leave it in my pocket until I'm finished. There's no need to put it on between shots. The hood gives good protection, and you can use a quality filter if conditions are really hostile (blowing dust, grit, sand, spume etc).

You too, there! See post #8! :D

The HN-4 is a screw-on hood and the cap is *not* able to be inserted without removing hood...

Hi, Sorry I misunderstood your question. I'd never known anyone wanting to leave a rigid lens hood in place with a lens cap on before.

Maybe another option and one that I used to do quite successfully was to use a rubber hood and when I'd finished shooting I would just fold it back over the lens and apply the lens cap. It used to work for me.

Hope this helps.

Hi, You are perfectly correct the HN-4 is a screw-on hood.

But the thread starter is asking about a "HS-4" hood which is a clip on hood also with a screw tread.

So if it is a snap on one could you use a centre pinch cap on the lens then?
