Nikon f80 and infra red

I know the manual and many web links say no way but there are some people who say that you can do infra red with a Nikon f80.

Does anyone have experience of this or can offer any advice?

I don't know the Nikon F80 at all, but if it uses IR LEDs as a frame counter (unless their shielded) then you can't use it with true IR film like Efke IR820 but you can use it with extended red sensitivity IR films like Ilford SFX.
Those people you're mentioning may find it alright as it could just be that it fogs into the edge perforations but not reach the actual image. If so all you can do is try and see.
