Hi, A friend of mine has a nikon F55 body. She would like to buy a lens for it which will be suitable for when she is out walking. Ideally she want to be able to capture items in the distance and be able to use it for more close up shots. Basically an all round lens with a bit of reach on it.

I am not at all familiar with the Nikon F55 so wouldn't know what spec of lens is required.

Thanks for any help

she want to be able to capture items in the distance and be able to use it for more close up shots.

that just sounds like a Macro Telephoto Zoom.
I dont think one exists but i am not a Nikon user so i maybe wrong.

Does she do any landscape work? how far does she want to zoom, what kind of objects in the distance is she looking at capturing birds/building etc...

She maybe asking alot for just on lens and maybe best splitting it to 2 lenses.

Thanks 33L
She is not into landscapes, I think she does more walking in the woods etc. So I guess she would be looking to capture dear/birds etc.

I get the impression she is not into macro, would just want to be able to pull out far enough so that if anything close caught her eye she could capture it.

I gave her my 18-55 to have a play with but she thought she might need more reach. Is there a lens somewhere in the region of 18-100

I think maybe an 18-200 might be a good fit but not sure what lenses a Nikon F55 takes. Also it may be a little heavy for her.

Thanks again

The Nikon F55 will not support AF-S. You can fit an AF-S lens, but it will be manual focus only.

The F55 will not support VR. You can fir a VR lens, but the VR won't work.

The F55 is a film camera so it won't work with DX lenses.

That pretty much rules out the 18-200mm, as it is a DX lens with both AF-S and VR.

I think your friend should be looking for something like a 28-200 or 28-300mm lens. If Nikon don't do one, look at Sigma, Tamron and Tokina as well.

stewartR, Thanks very much for that. I have found a Nikon Nikon 28-100mm f3.5-5.6 G for £69 but then I found amazon were selling the camera + lens for £49.
