So; I dug out my old F5, with a view to running some film though it, to discover that the front selection dial doesn't seem to be too accurate; each 'click' doesn't always change the aperture by 1/3 of a stop like it's supposed to, and it often takes a couple of clicks or more to actually shift the setting from one to another. This makes me think that perhaps the contacts are slightly dirty/corroded. It does 'work', but not that well, and sometimes it's difficult to get it to shift from say f2 to f1.8. Sub optimal. So, is this a known issue, and if so, is there a simple fix? A friend suggested spraying a bit of electrical contact cleaner into the slot, but I'd much rather employ a more targeted approach. Is it relatively easy to get into that part of the camera? Any ideas/advice welcome.

Is there nobody that can help me? Please! :police:

But it's about equipment?

Quite possibly the least worst way forward (and it's free) is simply to work the dial back & forth to wear through the oxide layers.

Send it away for repair , Fixation

And pay how much? No thanks. I'd be able to buy another s/h F5 for the money these places charge.

I had thought that this might work, as it's probably due to lack of use. Just wondering if any dirt has got in somehow, built up over time, and needs cleaning out. The fact that it is working, suggests it's most likely a bit of oxidisation. I'm just not so sure that spraying stuff inside, indiscriminately, is the best way forward. Just wondering if anyone's taken one of these beasts apart, and if it's going to be a relatively easy fix.

So a can of spray air would be better than contact cleaner, although I would probably work the dials in the presence of a hoover on gentle suck.
