Nikon F3 Problem - Hooray, I'm an Idiot

Evening all,

Having a problem with the old F3. Shutter cocks but will only fire either with the mechanical shutter bottom right or about 10 seconds after the proper shutter is depressed. I've put in new batteries, cleaned the contacts etc. but it still won't work.

The shutter still seems to be firing at the right speeds though, even when fired mechanically :shrug: I'm assuming it is an electrical problem with the shutter but if anyone has had a similar problem and knows a quick fix I'd be most grateful.

I don't think there is a quick solution Andy. Doing the Google there are a fair few shutter issues with the F3 that all seem to require a repair shop to fix.

Apparently there is a mechanism under the shutter release button that can break as it is a physical thing and not electronic from what I can find out. However as I can't find anything specific I would not bet on it.

Personally if is still a problem I would get it looked at.

Well now, proof if it were needed that I am an idiot. All that was wrong was that I had accidently moved the self-timer leaver round so it was firing after 10 seconds.:bang::bang::nuts::nuts:

Fortunately Miles Whitehead replied to my e-mail with the solution

As far as I can tell it is pretty much entirely populated by film loving twits, I think it's a condition of being allowed in the F&C section

You're not wrong there matey, just glad it only cost me a bit of pee-taking and not much gold to have it repaired.
