Nikon ED 80-200 F2.8 Push/Pull Lens ?

Yeah it does seem a really well built lens and its all metal and bloody heavy. My lens is the ED version but not sure what that means to be honest

I think they are all classed as ED, they have NIKON HD on the top plate.
First one was designated F2.8 AF with push pull zoom, last few made of that model was upgraded to "D" ( AF-D) which I have.
Next was the AF-D with zoom limiting switch, still push pull zoom
Then the 2 ring AF-D which I believe is still available to buy new and the AF-S which I reckon was the best of the lot, including the early VR.
Then the 70-200 lenses start with the first generation VR ( suffered from soft corners at 200mm) then the VRII which took the optics back up the sharpness of the earlier ones.

Now I need a lie down after thinking about all that 2.8ness.

ED = Extra Low Dispersion Glass - better than fluorite glass at eliminating chromatic abberrations.
And very expensive compared to 'ordinary' optical glass...
