I've just received an email form a guy offering to swap the following:

My: Fuji XT1, 10-24mm, 35mm, 56mm.

His: Nikon DF, 18-35mm, 50mm, 105mm macro.

Obviously I have no ides of condition but it is an interesting proposition and wondered what people thought of the DF? My XT1 hasn't been getting much use as I use the X100T for travel/everyday use and D750 for the more serious stuff. The Df would become my second body / back up.

Thoughts?

I swapped my Olympus E-M1 for a DF a couple of weeks ago. I've not had a huge amount of time to use it due to work (just the butterfly farm meet) but it's one hell of a camera. Noticeably smaller and lighter than the D700 I had previously, though not as easy to hold as that or the E-M1. I've not used an XT1 but it's probably closer in feel to that than your D750. You'll find the dials aren't quite as intuitive to use as the XT1 though, and you may end up using it setup more like the D750 to control. It gets slated for it's focussing all over the internet, but it's not bad it's just not great like your D750 will be. Overall the big positive is the sensor, if you want it then it's a DF or a D4, and the DF is much cheaper and smaller.

If the DF he's offering is in decent condition then I'd jump on it.

I enjoy using the XT1, I'm just not keen on having two separate systems. I found myself in a spot the other day where I couldn't work out how to change focus on my D750 because I'd been using my XT1 so much. It was such a simple thing, but it made me instantly think about the importance of having one system and knowing it inside out.

He reckons it's all in "as new" condition and he's shifting over to Fuji hence the willingness to swap.

Hmmmm decisions decisions!

One system: lens compatibility plus Nikons tend to have a common family feel. :)

I would have thought swapping whould have been a good deal.

If it was me I would do the swap as I prefer one lot of lenses

I'd snatch his hand off!

I didn't quite snatch his hand, but I did take him up on his offer. True to his word it's all in excellent condition and even came with a spare battery and really nice TP leather half and full case.

I'm not sure how much use I'll get out of the lenses that came with it. The macro might come in handy at some point and the 18-35mm just became my new throw around lens. The "special edition" 50mm just became my new nifty fifty, but I'll keep my other 1.4 too.

I was already well aware about the criticism of the cameras focal area size (crazy really) and supposedly slow AF (meh), but beyond that I'm finding it a joy to use. Had to slow down somewhat, but if I need to work on the fly I'm all for pairing aperture priority with auto ISO.

So far so good and a good back up for my D750, or vice versa :D

I too have a df and a 750 - my only observations are - pity they don't have the same battery ; I don't mind only one SD slot in the df but would have liked it to not be underneath next to the battery; Love the controls on the df reminds me of my 35mm film days ; Slow AF ? havn't noticed; Whhat is the focal area size criticism?

Overall I love both these cameras and I suppose eventually the 750 will be changed but i'm betting the df will become a classic and worth keeping .
