When shooting with my D40x i will try and use ISO 100 pretty much all the time unless the light is poor, Do you D90 users use the ISO 200 most of the time or do you use the LO1 setting (ISO 100 alternative).

I dont really understand why it only stops at ISO 200? Is it because it is far better at coping with noise across the ISO range?

Avoid LO modes.

"ISO100" reached via LO is the same as shooting ISO200 with +1 EV. Means you lose subtley in the highlights aka dynamic range. Avoid.

have you used the d90 puddleduck? the D90 seems to be getting rave reviews everywhere i look, some people are even recommending it to me over the D300 they dont think the extra money is worth it for the D300, although i doubt the same could be said for the new D300s.

I have used a D90, but only briefly - I've never been that fond of the D80 / D90 form factor. Neither fish now fowl - not as compact as a tiny D40 / D60, but don't have the handling goodness of the D200 / D300, so for me its never been a class of camera that appeals. But thats a very personal reason.. and handling etc is in the eye of the beholder.

Image quality will be the same as the D300. I'd personally go for a used D300 over a D90, if you are looking to buy new, I guess the D90 is the better deal.

In terms of image quality at low ISO there is little to seperate the D90 and D300, however when comparing the build quality, focus system etc, the D300 is significantly better.

And so it should be at twice the price. You pays your money, you makes your choice......

I stick to 200. Mainly because I don't think I can tell the difference between 100 and 200 ISO and prefer to be able to shoot at higher shutter speed.

But Puddleduck's reason also sounds like a good one to use the 200 ;)

I use 200 unless I want to go handheld in lower light when I'll then up the ISO.

ISO 200 on the D90 is easily as good as the D40x (which i owned previously) :)

Higher ISO on the D90 is excellent.

I stick to 200ISO.
I've heard bad things about the boost value ISOs. Better to leave them.
If LO's were really up to scratch with the ISO equivalents, there wouldn't be a need for these boosts.

I don't go lower than ISO200 as i heard a similar explaination to what Puddleduck posted.
It was one thing that annoyed me after using Canon gear but you soon get used to it :)
