Nikon D800......

Here's my first shot with my new (used) Nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens which arrived today. I shot this at f1.4 and focused on the tip of our dogs nose;

Couple of nice photos with the lens.

Haven't had much of a play, but mine seems quite soft wide open, yours seems better looking at the photo. Stopping down a tad does seem to improve though, so may need some MFA.

Having a little play with the shallow DOF on FF, as the 50mm f1.4 lens is the fastest I have ever used, next being the Nikon 1.8G and the Fuji 35mm f1.4.

Sharpness doesn't seem to bad as I first thought and mentioned in post 6001. Can see me having some fun with this lens:D

I still don't really understand 500PX but I do like posting things on it. Some how the coverage things can get is very impressive. One of my photos from Santorini has now got just over 5000 views :) if only everyone decided to buy it!!

David, this is were you need to start thinking of your personal photographic website and to offer your work/images for sale. It's really not that hard to set up, buy a domain name for yourself and then choose a website and away you go. A mate of mine has a photo website and the sales/printing/posting is all done through via his website via links to Loxley Colour labs without him getting involved...........clever. The money shows up in his account each month etc....

Neat eh....!

Any kind of links you could share? thanks very much for the advice.

Haha, nope not me
David, once you select your own personal website domain name, then you can use the likes of SmugMug or GoDaddy to host your domain name and images etc... it's really not that expensive, my personal photographic site is currently down at the minute because my ex-wife (Bi*cH) wanted half of the photo sales so I pulled the plug on it at the minute until the divorce is done & dusted. Very annoying!

My mate Kevin uses SmugMug for his personal website and sells images from it, his website is;

www.ksgphotography.co.uk

You can email him for advice etc, mention my name if you wish, a top bloke and a great photographer shooting the Fuji X system etc.

Hope this helps;
Pete

Haven't heard much news about the Sigma 1.4 Art as yet. Think I'll be aiming at some stage for the Nikkor 85mm f1.4D (cream machine) lens, next on my bucket list I think.

I've never owned Sigma glass...........what does their 'Art' version mean....?
A few years ago Sigma changed how they market lenses, they decided on three "categories" Art, Contemporary and Sport (I think ...) - in effect they have or are re-launching their range of lenses possibly in an attempt to overcome the poor rep they had for QC etc. They seem better made than the older ones from what little I've seen. Only "issue" I have is that the Art primes are heavy, very heavy.

Ye its really nice and super sharp. For the focal range I shot at its perfect, and if I need a bit wider I'll tend to just stitch a couple together instead of swiping to wider angle. Great investment

Some beautiful shots from your trip.
Guess you are talking about the 24-85 VR. It got mixed reviews, but for me, it is my perfect walkabout lens on holidays and also for food photography. It is sharp and has a good range.
I do keep thinking about stitching two or three shots to get wide shots, but most of the time it doesn't come to my mind while shooting. Reading your post should act as a reminder to use the lens that way.
