Nikon D800......

Lovely capture Shaheed, is that the Nikkor 105mm standard or macro lens? They say the 105mm is a superb portrait lens...?...have you ever used it for shooting portraits?

This is the old af-d macro lens. It's not the snappiest of lenses in terms of AF. That makes no difference for macro (to me). I had thought about upgrading it to the newer VR version, but I don't use it enough to justify the outlay. If I want longer than 85mm for portraits, I tend to use the 70-200 VR2.

I really like this photo, I think the foreground detail and the shore bank work really well together. I would play with the sky a bit as to me it looks a little blown out. Either just a graduated filter with a -stop of exposure or possible a reduction in the highlights may bring out more colour in the sky.

Good shot Shaheed, works pretty well for me.(y)

George.

Cheers

Was a quick one for my 366. Never owned a pair of sambas before. Only bought them for 5 a side but have been informed that people wear them for "fashion"!!

Really starting to enjoy the Nikkor 28mm f2.8D, a lovely focal length (NCP image above). I've a minty condition Nikkor 300mm f2.8 AI-S (manual focus lens) arriving tomorrow in a dedicated flight case, spent a few days researching and found one....monopod ordered.

Should be fun.

D810 reduced by over £550 on wex. Jessops followed suit with the U.K. Price match promise. Looks like something new will be coming.

Cheers

They were very popular about 30-35 years ago for football casuals, owned many pairs myself, along with Gazelles, Trimm Trab etc...... Funny how things do a full circle.

I am certain of two things...

1. I have *finally* decided to join the D810 club. Order placed for D810 from Wex - an unmissable bargain at £1795. Along with a 16-35mm f/4 VR from Amazon. (It'd be rude not to.)

2. I am going to be in so much trouble when my wife finds out.

I'm quite excited. And frightened at the same time.

That sounds like good progress Adrian, Once you get used to it you'll love it. The images that these things can produce are amazing and plenty of scope for cropping.(y)

Thanks George, appreciated.......that bird image is cropped a little.

The smooth/light focusing ring on the Nikkor 300mm lens barrel is a joy to use, you can get to focus fast on a subject.
Hoping to use this lens at a local race circuit near us within the next month with the racing season starting in April etc, I'll be needing more SD/CF storage cards......!

:)

This shot is of the "Inner Harbour" (Folkestone).

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of fine detail these series D8++ cameras can record. On the original file you can read the licence plate on the vehicles parked on the other side of the Harbour and easily read the the names on the distant fish stalls.

If you don't mind me asking what type of money did you get the lens for?....... And how do you find manual focusing on the D810, I haven't given it much of a go on the D750, but didn't mind on the Fuji XT1 for slower moving objects.

My kit is to be boxed up and sent off tomorrow so I can purchase a D810. Bought a minty Nikon 35-70mm f2.8 lens today, had a quick play on the D750 and it seems like a nice lens. I have used the push pull zoom before when I had the Nikon 75-300mm, so it didn't feel to bad to use. Also, the lens has a Macro setting which maybe handy.

Hi Simon, not much change from £750 (inc postage), maybe a tad over priced but it's in exceptional condition, I'd say 9 outta 10 condition wise, the Nikkor 300mm f2.8 front & rear optics are blemish free, virtually mint with no fungus/scratches/scores/dings/dents/faults, hard to find one of these in this condition to be honest, they're an older style lens being manual focus only, but I find it fine, I grew up with manual focus so I don't find it an issue whatsoever.

I can't get over the size of the front glass f2.8 element, simply huge in the flesh.

It's a lovely lens. I paid nearly half that for mine, but mine has seen some action over the years. Glass is still exceptional plus I got the flight case, all the drop in filters and the gel holder too. I bought this lens long before owning a nikon camera. (it prompted me to upgrade from canon)

It dwarfs all of my other nikkor primes
