Nikon D800......

After looking at stuff regarding the sale of goods act I'm now pushing for a replacement with Clifton cameras.

I wait to see how the handle this matter and how they try and fob me off.. If need be I will be taking them to the small claims court over this issue as all onus lies with them. Not with Nikon.

You are even untitled to compensation if the product is away for an un satisfactory time to be repaired.. From me contacting Nikon until ow its already been nearly 5 weeks and I have an 2-3 to wait if they insist on sending it for a second repair.

Legally they don't have to refund you, but should offer a replacement. So I would push that with WEX.

WEX has already offered him a replacement afaik.

Looking forward to getting my new D800 however if I have the same problem ill be going canon!

Well that's the thing they told me they found a fault with the AF. They report just said about all the tests they ran on the camera and that AF calibration for accuracy on the 51 points had been made.

Just off the phone with Clifton camera, how are being very helpful regarding this issue now.

They are wanting to check over my camera today them selfs then will decide what course of action to take after talking to Nikon.

They have said they will either return it for a second repair and loan me a d700 for my trip to Asia as they dont think it would be repaired in time or may swap it for a d800e as they don't have stock of the standard d800.

They will phone me back later today to try and sort this issue.

WEX to be honest have been great to deal with. I told them I'm not accepting another repair. Once you have gave them the chance to repair it and if it comes back worse you should 100% refuse another repair.

Agreed, best of luck Pmac.

Had a call back and they confirmed there is an definite issue with my camera.
They have contacted nikon and the UK rep is picking the camera up and taking it nikon repair.
On tuesday they said they would contact me again after they decide what to do.
The manager at clifton camera said he is pushing for a replacement and have now said if they do it could be a d800 but they would want me to pay 1/3 of the price difference from a d800.

Seems to be going back around in circles again..I don't know why nikon is getting involved to be honest as my contract is with the shop. They say they cant supply a new d800 and I'm refusing to pay any extra as i payed more from my d800 than a new d800e is now.
they are still saying they will lend me a camera if they decide to repair it, but I think I'm going to refuse it and should demand a replacement to the value of what i payed or a refund.

the manager is being very nice about all this though.

I bought it about 5 months ago . I left for asia just after and never bothered to check it as I just decided to use it how ever it was as the centre point seemed fine. I mainly used the centre point incase there was an issue.

I didn't use it much for a month or so after I returned, due to being so busy.
Towards the end of January I decided to sit down and take a day to do some proper testing.. this showed the issue.

I then bought FoCal and again this showed issues and I contacted nikon near the start of febuary..then the hassle has been on going since then. it was returned a week or so ago.

A few days later I contacted the shop and waited most of a week for labels to return it to them.

Regardless of how long I've had it you actually have a 6 year guarantee with any electrical objects with the seller, not the manufacturer(which most people don't know).
As long as the item has failed and is expected to last that long.

The first 6 months its up to the seller to prove there is no issue or you can ask for a repair or replacement, you can also ask for a reduction in price if repairs take longer than you expect or affect you.

After that its up to yourself to prove there is an issue then the above also apples.

So far nikon have proved there was an issue due to them taking it in and trying to repair it. now the shop has also confirmed the repair is not satisfactory and its not working as it should.

After your story, I will check mine again ...it came back from repair not too long ago and yet I just believed Nikon that it was fixed -left AF issue....
95% percent of time I use single centre point...

If that would have happened to me I would be fuming with anger...

ahh with mine on return the centre point was totally out. If thats fine it should be fine, but its worth checking.

Repairs seem to be hit and miss, maybe its the tech or how busy they are. Thats 3 within the past few weeks returned worse though..mine,tony and a guy that sent me a PM on FM forum.. his seems better after the second time but all his lens still need quite a bit of MA.

Im annoyed not just by the repair but that I sold my d700 which had no issues or needed no or little MA on any of my lens to swap for this.. I had contemplated switching systems but decided against it.

Wasn't there something about the rear screeen displaying a slight green tint but this was sorted with a firmware update, never heard of seen anything about a green tint to the actual images

Anyone else had problems with the ML-25 charger? Just popped a battery in (holding three quarter charge) and no lights, nothing. Switched power leads in case of fuse failure and tried a different socket, still nothing...

Hope to get my D800 this week, maybe a new lens too! Will see how it goes

So nobody's had charger issues then? Just my luck. Camera just over a week old and I don't even have a spare battery yet. Plus it's Easter so I probably won't get anyone to answer the phone at Nikon. :(

Tried the number - closed until tomorrow. Unfortunately the shop is Dixons duty-free at Heathrow.... not back thru there until middle of next week.

Thanks pmac. Called my local Currys but they said just to call Nikon direct and that they'd probably just post me out a new charger. I saw that battery issue highlighted on the Nikon website - checked mine and it's not one of the affected batch.

knowing nikon they will want it back to check first, but you may be lucky and they might just send a new one.

Its maybe quicker to go through nikon but if you have any issues its actually the shops responsibility to sort them, not the manufacturers.

D800/D800E Firmware update: A 1.01 & B 1.02 published today...
CLICK

Mostly minor fixes that you'd never notice although the following may be well worth having:
- Subject tracking performance in AF-C (continuous-servo autofocus) autofocus mode with framing using the viewfinder has been improved.

Done.

Not that I'll notice, I never use AF-C. There's something about images looking a bit more vivid when reviewing on the LCD ... otherwise...

Called Nikon today about my charger issue. Have to say that their Customer Service sucks.... Called at 9 - related my problem, guy tells me that a member of the Pro team would call me right back. Called at 10 and related my problem again (no note on system) to another guy, he also says that a member of Pro team would call me back. Said member of Pro team called me back 5 mins later, and he suggests that I send the charger in for repair. I only got the camera 2 weeks ago I said, can't you just post me a replacement? Puts me on hold whilst he checks. Comes back and says we don't hold stock - so send it in for repair. Not good enough for a two week old £1900 investment I say. Then call our aftersales people he says - we are in Dublin , they are in London, they might be able to help. I call them. Got a female who insisted on repeatedly talking over me and was clearly sticking to a script. Told me to take it back to the store. I tell her that the store is in Heathrow and I am in Belfast (I had already checked online and there is no local stock in any of the NI stores). So then she says that I should send it in for repair, using the handy Freepost service. I told her that I thought this was very poor CS - I was effectively cameraless until this was sorted out - why couldn't they post me a new charger and I would undertake to return the other immediately? Because there are a lot of dishonest people out there she says.....

Anyway, it just so happens that I am going through Heathrow again next week. So I called the store and the guy there couldn't have been more helpful and sympathetic. If necessary he says, he will give me a charger from a display D800/D600/D7100. In the meantime, I have borrowed a charger from a friend to get me operational again.
