I don't understand people that come off with that sorta muck, if I have a piece of equipment that I have even a small % of doubt in its gone in a shot.

Keeping a £2k camera when you think it is crap is blatant nonsense

I have just got off the phone to Nikon UK regarding my D800 repair.

Seems there was a problem after all. I was on the phone to one of the senior managers. The process they used to correct the AF seems quite complicated but according to them it's as perfect as it gets now. They said they also enclosed a detailed breakdown of what the issue was and how they corrected it. Will be an interesting read no doubt!

It seems they have to write the individual AF fixes for each AF point and how that in turn affects the AF of the other points.

I'm so glad I sent it in to them. It's in transit to me now so I'm really looking forward to getting it back

Anyone that suspects an AF problem should send it straight in, I'm glad I didn't just accept a replacement!

Yep body only. It wasn't the left side AF issue either. They said they actually found a fault with the AF so I'm eager to see the report.
 
Front focusing on every lens. I wasn't sure to be honest as when I tested it initially it seemed grand. It just didn't feel right AF wise

There also seemed to be significant variances in the level of front focusing depending on light, artificial light being way way worse even when there was plenty of it

AF is superb too!

I took this shoot of little georgia (a 3 year old full of energy) running towards me in a VERY DARK room, eyes are bang in focus.

Well camera arrived back and after approximately 30 shots, not even the dot tune testing the camera seems worse than when I sent it in to them.

I'm pretty gutted to say the least.

I'm not entirely sure how to approach this now...
 
Gutting, why are so many people having issues with nikon uk! Keep reading about it. Demand a replacement that works.
 
I'm actually on WEX page now looking at the 5D mk3

It's embarrassing how they can send it back at least twice as bad as what I sent it in. This has left an awfully sour taste in my mouth. It's absolutely abysmal.

Exactly the same issue I've had..

There's not much you can do..trading standards didn't seem bothered that I had a £2000+ camera that was worse after warranty repair.they said since its been sent to the manufacture that pretty much invalidates any come back you may have.

The first 6 months its up to the owner to prove there's an issue then its up to the manufacturer to prove there's no issue.. **** thing is Nikon are the only ones that can sort the issue. So if they say its fine not much can be done.

Where did you buy it from? I got mine from Clifton cameras and they have been helpful in the fact they asked me to return it to them and they will push nikon for a fast repair as its a second time..if it comes back again ,not working I will be pushing hard for a replacement but I doubt it will happen.

As I posted before someone sent me a PM on the FM forum said his was also returned a second time with all his lens but I've not heard how its been since it was returned(he was ment to receive it fri/sat last week)

There's also a guy in the us who has returned his 3 times with each time coming back not working as it should.

I've also been looking at a change but the cost to move would be bad for me especially with the camera, I bought t for £2300 and second hand working ones have sold for £1400 ,,doubt would get much for one with issues..a system change would cost me £2-3000

It was bought from WEX photographic.

It was sent in just after 40 days. It's been away for half of that time. Within taking the first 5-10 shots I was already feeling sick.

It is genuinely much worse than before.

I have never seen as severe a case of front focusing. Taking the same shots in live view show how sharp and accurate it should be.

I don't want to take a single shot with it again its back in its box and nikon can stick it clean up their ********s

Also if it needs calibrated to every lens you get for it I wouldn't accept that. So you change your lens you have to send it in again

This is a ****ing ridiculous joke it now has me wondering if there is an inherent problem with this camera.

If you bought it on a credit card they may help. I payed for half of mine the other half on credit..so that didn't help me.

I doubt WEX will help much except ask for it to be returned again..you really only have the first 7 days to return it and even then I don't know where you stand if its been used.

It is a sick feeling and has tainted my feeling towards Nikon.

Does MA help at all.. It did with my 24-70 though that needed -12 at the start and still needed +18 after.

I haven't really done the scientific tests as such, dot tune etc. it's clear to see how far it is out and I took a few shots with the AF +5 right through to +20 and it didn't seem to help very much at all.

I literally don't want to take any more photographs with it.

No camera is perfect which I can accept but there's not a chance I'm gonna ruin someone's wedding with this camera.....
 
Mine went in for repair (the last owner did it) and I needed a +16 on my 70-200 and +13 or something on my 24-70. :)
 
yeah I'm gonna get on to them first thing in the morning.

Tony you should take WEX up on the offer of a new replacement. Also forward this and other threads you can to Nikon so they can do a little reading up on people's disappointing experiences with Nikon uk service centre.

Yeah I will speak to them in the morning. If the replacement is the same then I can say 100% I will be moving back to canon.

No doubt they will want it back in again to *test* it
 
Perhaps you can arrange for them to send you a replacement and at the same time the courier takes the duff.
 
I have a theory, wonder if the uk centre is using a duff lens for testing/calibrating, might explain why people's bodies are coming back more out of whack than before.

I would doubt it. Although I heard they use a 50mm 1.4G to test.

Hard to say you would imagine they have pretty sophisticated methods of testing AF.

I'm sick of wasting energy and time over this camera to be honest

So much for 51 point AF the same as the D4 when it's absolutely broken, I would imagine the effect is hidden or much less pronounced due to the D4 having 20 odd mp less
 
Most repair companies afaik use a 50mm, why would they use a different lens each time. Kick some arse tomorrow and get your new camera :)

I'm gutted for the hassle everyone's having with the repairs. Any minor doubts I have about mine I'm going to live with given the sorry state of Nikon uk service. But for the cost of a system change I'd be looking at Canon.

On the credit card piece though have you tried through the bank? Some of the protections you have kick in even when only part of the purchase was on the card even though they don't like to publicise it too much.

I don't see how they can limit themselves to just using one focal length to test cameras, when Nikon introduced the self micro AF adjustments within camera they asked that you tested it over several different focal lengths and several different distances and made the best compromise for your particular lens.
 
Gary, you would've thought so but from my understanding/research they mostly use a 50mm. It was only a theory anyway and by different lens I meant different copy of the same lens.
