this is the reply i got from mpb via email.after asking if it was concrete info, and if d700 prices would drop also expected rrp of the d800.
Nothing concrete, just well sourced info.
Please do consider that the launch price of the D800 will be IRO of twice D700 retail so D700 prices will not drop that much, just a little (maybe 10-15%).
This doesn't do me any favours, I really want to buy a second D700 asap but keep putting it off in case this happens. Be just my luck to buy one and then within a month or two the price has dropped by £150 due to a D800 being released.

Like computers the best time to buy is now
If you bought it yesterday, it has depreciated.
If you buy it tomorrow, you will get better technology.
So buy it now ...![]()

D800 won't be released till next year. I stake all my worldly belongings on it.
This thread makes me happy I bought a D700 when I did![]()

Hard to believe it's going to have 98 pct viewfinder coverage when the D7000 has 100pct. Pro model with inferior spec to a Consumer model?
These are rumours guys - there's nothing official at the moment.
The D700 only has a 95% viewfinder.
Beardy said:Sure but the D7000 predecessor didn't have a 100% viewfinder. I just think it would be strange for a pro camera to have an inferior feature. I know the DX is a smaller sensor but the fact remains with the D7000 you see 100% of the image even if it is captured by a smaller sensor....which if this spec is true you wouldn't with a considerably more expensive Pro body.
I don't know nearly enough about camera construction and optics to know how much more difficult/expensive it would be with an FX than a DX sensor it just strikes me as odd.
Anyway it's all speculation.......
