Anyone out there have much love for the D80? Just asking as it seems to be overlooked around these parts. Had mine three years and still going strong. I know it has a questionable metering system but I love the camera it's done nothing since please me since day one.

I really enjoyed the D80. It was a big step up in terms of resolution and LCD size over the D50 and D70s. Lovely compact size and managable compressed NEF size too.

My first dslr and now my back-up. It's a cracking bit of kit and possibly a better entry level buy (going on 2nd hand price) than many of the newer Nikon entry level dslrs.

I don't think it gets overlooked as much as it had some glaring issues, an amazingly good successor and it is too old. It is like saying the D40 gets overlooked. It isn't it is just too old ( have one and love it but a D7000 is in my future)

the 80 is a great camera still and as said, probably a better into camera than the D3000 (though the 3100 might be better than the 80). But, you're in web forums land where bigger and newer is better and everyone wants to upgrade regardless of what they have. We're 2 generations on from the D80 and with 2 great successors now, it will take an enthusiast to buy one.

Thanks
Rick

Whilst I didn't have my D80 for long it was a great learning tool after the D40. The ONLY reason I upgraded to the D90 was the poor(er) high ISO performance of the D80 - I shoot a lot of indoor sports without flash.

In general use I got some really good pictures from the D80 and in this respect the D90 is not really any better.
