Hey Guys,

I've had my D80 for quite a few years and whilst i've not used it much in the past year or two, a pending holiday has inspired me to get back into the habit.
I'm keen to upgrade to better hardware, primarily for speed, features and a larger screen. The lenses I use are an 18-200 VR for everyday and a sigma 10-20 for the wider shots, as well as 50mm 1.8 for portraits.

I can pick up a used D7100 for around £400 but is it worth spending the extra for a D7200. I know the latter has wifi so has benefits fundamentally are they very different?

Keen to get some thoughts before making a decision.

Thanks

I read about this before getting my d7200 (which has now been stolen) and came to the conclusion that it was better to get that. The main thing for me was the buffer being better allowing faster fps. But if you're not doing wildlife or sports that may be of no benefit for you. I can't remember the other differences right now but as an aside the d500 is coming out soon and I think lots of d7200 owners will upgrade so the used price of the 7200 should drop soon. The d500 is due end of April so if you can wait you'll probably get a good deal.

Personally I would get either the D7000 or the D7200.

D7000 is fantastic and I don't see the D7100 offers much more for the extra money.

The D7200 is a significant upgrade over the D7000 to be worthwhile if you are feeling flush.

who said they don't buy from Nikon UK but from Nikon Direct.

'Grey' equipment ... personally if I was going to buy 'grey' I would go to Panamoz who have numerous satisfied customers here on TP :) (Other grey suppliers are available). :)

£44 difference between Panamoz and Portus or wait for used 7200 in a month or 2....? hmm what to do?

I went from 7k that I loved to the 7k1 ( yuk) then 7k2! (Loved) then went full frame!

As I say you've waited this long just wait a month or two more and I suspect lots of d72ks will come up. Keep posting in other sections and become part of the community and you'll quickly get access to the fs section, probably just in time.

I agree with

I agree with this. Get a 7200 if you can. 7100 was a lame duck upgrade of 7000 in my opinion.

I see a difference between the d7000 and the d7200 I bought recently, so much so, I sold both 7000 I had and started my foray into full frame by buying a d700 with the d7200 as my main camera

Was in the same boat a couple of month ago, in the end I went for the 7200 for a number of reasons. Oh and I got it from Paul at HDEW, who gives you a 3 year warranty.

Very pleased with my purchase, the 7200 is some camera believe you me, have a look on youtube at some of the reviews which will give you an insight as to what it can do.

7200 ordered with the 3 year warranty. Expecting delivery in a few days. Not sure whether to sell the D80? I mean do they go for much these days or keep for the kids to play with....?

Personally I would keep the D80, they're worth so little nowadays I think it's nice to keep them for the kids, a friend, a backup...

HDEW ????

Ordered from Portus Digital in the end. Spoke to both outfits beforehand and reviews read were decent for both. Took a punt.

deffo worth a punt, you'll love it :)

Really looking forward to it tbh. Had a while out of the fold but juices are flowing once again to get on with it now. Haven't really been doing much on the photography front for a while but an upcoming trip has me refocused.

Recieved the 7200 yesterday [emoji3]

Which SD card do you guys recommend? I'm looking at the San Disk Extreme Pro 32 or 64.

I use the Kingston 32GB cards from 7 day shop, got 4 of them for less than £50 delivered HERE

have a look at this site LINKY for real world tests with the D7200 and you can compare prices against speed.
to me the Kingston provides the best bang for buck considering its only 1 Mb slower than the Extreme Pro but about half the price.

Kingston cards are very good, as are Sandisk and Transcend.

It doesn't make that much difference, it's more important to buy from a reputable seller and get a genuine card - there are so many fakes out there (especially with sandisk).
