Nikon D80 or D200? Any D200 in Birmingham?

Have a look at the Shopping Suppliers and Bargains thread. There is a list of used equipment suppliers there.

In the same situation, was thinking of the d5000 as Jessops are doing it with 2 lenses for 499, i have managed to blag a d200 body off a work colleague and trying to get a lens off another so i can have a play. The d200 seems a cracking bit of kit, a proper camera size compared to my e410

I am trying the D80 atm but I have not gotten the chance to take a look at the D200.
Does anyone know if there are any places/shops in Birmingham where they have a Nikon D200 second hand?
I would just need to take it in my hands to see what it feels like, given the heavier weight and bigger size compare to the D80.
Cheers,
Romain

I have a D5000 as my main camera and i also have a D200
the D200 may be 5 years older but in every respect i think it knocks the more recent D5000 for six

It is bigger feels better/ built better the buttons for w/b iso and quality are easy to hand
it has a built in motor as well i find myself using this when ever i can
In your hands it will feel like a pro camera and no reason why you shouldnt get results like one too

Thanks but I think I would like to see it at least once before spending £300-350 on it! :)

As someone who's used all of those Nikons I'd have to say D90 if you can stretch to the budget for a second hand one. D90 blows D80 and D70 out of the water.

Thanks for your message.
I am already stretching my budget for a D200. I think, from what I have seen on ebay the D90 is still selling for around £400...I was thinking of spending £300-350 for a D200.

Another vote for the D200. if you like using older primes its a great camera I took some cracking dusk shots using s Nikon Series E 50mm lens which I bought s/h for £15. Currently using a 24mm Sigma 2.8 Ultra Wide which I bought for about £30.

A great solid camera - I luv it

I was in the same situation but opted for the D80 because it was quite a bit cheaper, the D200 is whether sealed and is probably more durable too, however I purchased two lenses as well as the D80 for the price of a D200 body.

Hi Thanks, I have the Nikon series E 50mm too and I don't use my Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 anymore...I'll go for the D200, I just need to find one at a decent price.

For hands on - check the second hand camera stores like London Camera Excehange. None near bham tho.
If you are in London (or Reading definately has) loads of cameras... worth visiting if you can.

Derby is around 1hrs drive... nice people there.

Thanks. One of my classmate has a D200 so I got to try it. I'm keeping an eye on the internet now to try to get one for myself.

I'm going to have two d200s in great condition up for sale but not quite yet, need to fund two d700s to replace them. Would hope to do one first though, but by then you'll be sorted :( Shame tho as I'm in brum :)

Got my D200 !

not yet because it is exams time at university at the moment. But I previously used my friend's one and I can't wait to try mine.

I might take it to the exam room tomorrow to get a few shots !
