Please can anyone help,

I have taken delivery today of a Nikon D80. I am having all sorts of focusing problems. All photo's are blury.

I am used to using Nikons and have the D50 and D70 and no focusing problems with either.

I have tried all of my lens' and everyone is producing the same blury photos.

I have the following lens' Nikon 50mm 1.8, Sigma 24-70 Sigma 70-200, Nikon 18-70Has anyone any ideas on what the problem could be.

Make sure that both the camera and lens are set to autofocus (M/AF switch on the front to the left of the lens as you would hold it to shoot). Mine was set to manual out of the box.
Also the user guide troubleshooting section on page 129 is pretty useful.

Many thanks for the reply Phil but I had already done that one.

On my D50 there was a function where you could disable AF on the shutter button, and move it to the AE button. Maybe something similar to this?

just a thought have you set the veiwfinder with the dioptre adjustment for your eyes

Do you actually get focus lock on anything by holding the shutter release down halfway?

Think I have sorted it, many thanks for all your input. I have had some quite reasonable results and will continue to test the camera out.

Here's a few test shots iv'e taken, I would love to know what you think. All taken with the sigma 24-70

Those pics look ok to me (?) What was the problem then as the D80 is on my shortlist ...
Paul ;)

Nice shots Jemini - glad you got it sorted. What was the prob just for future reference?

Is there an echo in here

Here we are another couple of days on and would you believe the problem still remains with the camera. Although the photos posted were much better than I had got the previous day they still remain not as sharp as the ones taken with the D50. So after trying many different settings I am now going to change the camera as if appears to be a problem focus with the particular camera. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn't happen with the replacement.

Good luck with it - let us know how you get on with the replacement.

Sorry Joe only just seen this, many thanks for your offer. The new D80 has arrived and so far the focus seems fine on this one. I hope to give it a good test over the next week. I will give you a if I have any problems if you don't mind.
