Nikon D7xxx owners thread

I bought my D7000 new in 2012 and still love it today....I am upgrading within the next few months to a D810 but will always keep my 7000. For me a camera is not just a tool, its produced the photos I now regard as good memories and so has some sentimental value. The D7000 paired with the 18-200 is such a versatile combo - almost covers every task well. I travelled for 6 months backpacking with hand luggage only. All I took was my D7000, 18-200, 50mm 1.8d and a travel tripod and never felt I needed anything else. I plan building a new FX set up specifically aimed towards landscape and wildlife/outdoor photography, however I will always reach for the d7000 when I just want to go lightweight with one lens as a walk around.

It's arrived! :D

Ordered from HDEW last friday, was dispatched on Thursday and arrived yesterday. Was left with a neighbour as I was at a wedding yesterday, so just got my hands on it. Haven't even taken a photo with it yet and I love it!

Just ordered a couple of 64GB SDXC cards and spare battery from Amazon. Looking forward to taking some shots with. As an aside, very happy with HDEW, was well packaged and came with both English manual and UK plug. Will definitely be ordered from them again... new wide angle lens next. :D

has anybody put on many photos take with the D7200. I have an old D80 and can see that I would greatly improve the specs buy going with the 7200.00 . problem is my laptop is as old as the camera. will it need updating also, to keep up with the size of the photos? its and Acer Aspire 5920G? I am not really tecnical so though would ask nicely. Cheers

I have had mine a week and the focusing/exposure is excellent, but this time I am reading the whole manual .lol
also got mine from hdew, cant fault them
But fedex decided to leave the camera in my outdoor plastic box. so much for a signature !!

If I buy a D 7200 from HDEW will I still be able to update the firmware when required?
I notice on an American site it states that grey imports cannot be updated.

Yes, firmware releases are available for download on Nikon site and you update it yourself :)

Haven't had chance to unleash the camera yet, saving that for the weekend, but here's an obligatory "new camera" shot. :D

Loving the image quality of this thing, it blows my old D60 out of the water.

Bit late to the party as usual... but I just got a D7100 :) I've been Canon for the last 5yrs or so, but to me it seems like their crop camera line up has a bit of a gap at the moment, which for £460 new with 3yr warranty, the D7100 has filled. Got out and shot a few pics last weekend with a borrowed Sigma 18-50 f2.8, bit of a clunker of a lens but really liking the camera, and it's not as big of a learning curve as I thought. I also picked up a 35mm F1.8 but haven't shot with this yet, and I'm looking at the 16-85 Vr and 70-300 Vr to make a nice rounded selection which should cover all situations.

I used mine mated to a newly aquired 300 f2.8 VR at a karting event on Sunday, the crop caught me out at first after using a D750 but the quality of the shots was equal to the FX body. It will work really well with the 35mm and the 70-300, I've used both in the past .

Good news thanks Paul, hoping to get some time with the 35 this weekend, 70-300 and 16-85 due to arrive next week sometime :)

A month since a post on this thread,is everyone waiting for the D400:exit:

Can't see me changing any time soon - only had the D7200 a couple of months and still less than 500 on the clock.

I'm happy with mine too but never say never with our GAS issues haha

Had mine for a month now and I love it - just can't decide what lens to buy to satisfy my GAS.

Nikon 24-70 f2.8 is my main lens. I bought it with the intention of going full frame 3 years ago. Not gone FX yet though and love the 24-70 on the D7200:)

No I meant with GAS three is no such thing as just 1 lens ;p I do like my 300mm PF great compact setup for wildlife

Ahh I see, gotcha - yeah I've got it bad.

I want a wide-angle lens, a 70-300... and no doubt I'll want a macro come spring as well... I need help!

Anything about the camera you're not happy with? Things you'd change? Personally I could live without the lock on the drive mode dial and I'd quite like a dedicated AF On button. I use the AEL button but it's a bit of a stretch. My old bridge camera had a comfier grip as well. I've never tried a D5500 or D750 so I don't know how much better the grips are on those. All minor things I suppose.

The lock on the drive mode dial is a Godsend after the D7000 - kept knocking it by mistake and changing mode.

I think if your thinking full frame in future you won't go wrong with 24-120 F4 it's really well balanced on it just not as wide as some like as you need 16mm on DX to be what 24mm on FX is

Is there any way of showing the iso setting in the viewfinder of the D7200 all the time.

I thought it was kind of there by default - certainly can be displayed by pressing the ISO button (page 99 of the manual)

Thanks, but i was hopping to find a way to have it there all the time. Its the one thing I miss coming over from Canon.

That's the point - I think it is there. Just not well documented in the manual.

Certainly in other Nikons (I don't have a 7200) it's presented at this location in the viewfinder. If you half-press the shutter release it changes to display the number of frames available/remaining in the Buffer. Odd I know, but I'm sure that's how it is.

No, only shows ISO when you press the button unfortunately. I would rather it was there all the time. I don't really need to know how much is left in the buffer, wish you could change it.

I'm sure you will be happy with the 16-85, I'm very pleased with mine, I also use a 70-300VR and it's a great combination.

I'm currently looking for a crop body and was thinking of a d7200. I wasn't aware the ISO can't be displayed in the viewfinder constantly. As an avid user of auto ISO with manual mode displaying ISO is really important to keep an eye on it. Sounds like a backwards step from nikon here, sadly I think i may have to look at the d7100 instead as not constantly showing ISO will drive me insane.

Rob, it may well do.... I haven't got a 7200 (but a host of others which do display the ISO) so I downloaded the manual - I found it confusing and a little contradictory to say the least. I believe also on Auto ISO you do get an indication.

Have look yourself - D7200 - you'll to provide the input though :(
