Nikon D7xxx owners thread

Home now, my internet ran out on my mobile (managed to go through 4gb in 3 days, oops).

I've managed to fix it. Tried different SD cards, different focusing methods, disabling back button, resetting camera settings etc. Nothing.

Got home and updated firmware as I was still on the version it came with and now it works fine. It's annoying as I lost so many photographs trying to photograph deer on Friday but least it is now working again.

For those which haven't done the update, it is supposed to fix barrel & pincushion distortion so worth doing

There's not really much of a difference....
The AF is better
Can you say in what ways better? In what circumstances? By how much?

Crude questions I know, but thanks in advance for any light you can shed!

The AF just seems quicker to lock on and more accurate. It's a lot of little improvements that all add up.

Still got mine which I brought new 2 weeks after release!
Still use it regularly and it's never missed a beat!
The eldest daughter uses it now when we go out together as I've now got a D610 and D750!

This is going to be Lily's camera (7yr old). The only reason I've bought it is because i have a wedding to cover in November and it pairs really well with an 85mm.

Going to pick up the Nik 18-55 vr2 which should help with weight for her.

We've started going out for sunrise and sunset together so it should be adequate for her needs. :)

Sounds perfect!
Mines 10 and loves coming with me!
She especially likes the pre wedding shoots!

Good one chap. I've just bought Charlie a d3100 so Lily is leagues ahead already

So then... I'm back. :D

Just bought a D7000 to accompany my D750. It'll be like welcoming an old friend (all be it a different one!) back.

Blimey mate... Are you regressing? You'll be buying another X-T1 next :-)

So I've finally settled on a D7200, rather than a FF, and I'll be ordering in the next week or so. I'm now struggling with whether I should bother with the kit lens on offering so I'm after some opinions if at all possible.

On my D60 I've got the 18-200mm VR II and 50mm 1.8D prime.

I've got the option of getting the 18-140mm for an extra £150.

My question is, would it be worth getting (considering my current zoom covers that length and some)? Would the image quality be any better on the 18-140?

I'd like to get a Macro lens a little further down the line so wondering if I'm just better saving the £150 to put towards that.

Many thanks in advance.

I've had mine about a month now and loving it. Sorry I'm not really qualified to answer your question @Chuckoir, I have the 18 - 105 and I'm debating between adding the 70 - 300 or selling the kit lens and going for the latest 18 - 300.

What's the best wide angle lens for this camera ?
Depends what you want to do with it. I have the Sigma 10-20 which is ok. I would like the Tokina 11-16 as it's faster (f2.8).
I've had the Tamron 10-24 and didn't like it as it was very soft.
Then there's the Nikon wides, 12-24, 14-24 (FX lens) and another which I think is a 10-24.
Depends a lot on budget too.

Budget is tight got a wedding to pay for next year lol there is a sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 in the sale section and was thinking about that are there the issues with this lens and the D7200 some say it locks it up ??

Seems ok so far on mine and I've got an old battered one which has bits superglued in place to keep the hood on:)

Looking at your post in the classifieds I think I know what you are talking about now. Some third party lenses will not AF in live view on newer Nikon bodies. Nikon have a habit of updating their AF algorithms on new bodies and don't release the information to third parties. Sigma and other manufacturers have to reverse engineer this algorithm to get their lenses to work properly.
Normal AF is ok it's just live view if affects - I forgot about thus as I never use live view.
Sigma can update some lenses and if you bought it new yourself will usually do it for free if you can supply the receipt. Older lenses they won't update.

Ok great thanks I don't really use live view as not really a fan and won't be using it for video

Well, if my mind wasn't made up before, it most definitely is now...

D7200 up for £589 at HDEW....

You'll notice the difference from a D60:)
Are you keeping the D60? Would still be useful as a backup or when you just want to carry a lighter camera around.

Yeah I'll be keeping the D60, for the reasons you've given - also, for the amount I'd get for it, hardly seems worth selling it. :)

Ye you get naff all now for the D60 luckily I had a friend who was willing to pay a bit more than the shop offerd so he's now happily using it

10 days, maybe I should have said keep your eyes open and press the button.

Enjoy the new camera.

Thinking about returning to a D7000 or maybe a D300s or D7100 cant make up my mind!

Quick question if I may, birthday coming up and hopefully getting a 50 1.8D, is it possible to alter the aperture on the lens rather than the command dials, or does it have to be set at one end or the other?

It has to be altered on the body - the lens needs to be set at f22 or whatever its highest aperture is and the little lock switch flicked up to lock it
