Nikon D7xxx owners thread

Depends on your budget really.
I use the Nikon 24-70 mostly but it's heavy. For lightweight I use the Nikon 16-85 VR - probably one of the best DX lenses around apart from the heavy 17-55
 
"All round"? ... I use the 24-120 f4, a great lens that gives good image quality and has a really useful focal range for so many different uses :)
 
A 18-140 VR ?
I am suprised the d7200 isn't touch screen, it would have been nice.
 
I'm really excited just ordered from HDEW got the 18-140 VR kit ...will also buy 32 G card . :nikon:

Thanks Grumps you always buy new lens? It's just I see some nice glass on places like gumtree at decent prices ....Amazon even.

I like new lenses and if called upon to spend serious money (£4-5k) I would consider carefully before buying a 2nd hand lens ... especially from the likes of Gumtree ... however I have bought used here from the forum quite happily :)
 
Can anyone post some unedited high iso shots from RAW (I guess 6400) in lowish indoor light, please?

Yes it does - same as D7100, D7000 and some other Nikons.

Also uses the same grip as the D7100 (MB-D15)

Yes - I have a D7100 and D7200, both with grips and they are both the same (7100 and 7200 use the same body casing). Got both grips as a free promotion from Nikon:)
 
There's not really much of a difference. To be honest, I only upgraded as my son wanted to upgrade his D5100. He had my old D7100 and I traded in his old D5100 as part ex for the D7200.
The AF is better and the buffer is bigger, wifi is handy. Image quality is supposed to be better but to be honest it's not really worth the upgrade from a D7100.
If you were going from the D3xx or D5xx range then yes it would be worth it (not sure about the D5500 though as that seems really good spec)
I'm surprised they never put an articulated screen on the 7200 though - that would have been good.
 
Has anyone experienced the r12 error? It's supposed to be buffer related but it happens in every mode but auto and auto without flash.. It happens even if thethe buffer is clear

It happens on every lens I own and is happening more often. Stuck using auto mode in monkey world like a dombat today as it kept happening and now it won't stop =(

Being a pro I left My d7000 home..
 
I thought r12 was the amount of shots remaining till the buffer fills up?
 
I've just ordered the D7200 from Panamoz, Along with the 18-140mm kit lens. I am very excited to see how well it performs. I've also picked up the 50mm 1.8G lens to go with it as well. I'm going to be like a child waiting for Christmas until it arrives now. As I've been without a camera for a couple of months.
 
It displays r12 when I press the shutter on m/a/s/pp but doesnt take a photo. Its as if it thinks I'm half pressing or not fully detecting me pressing the shutter.

It takes photos and doesn't show r12 in auto. It does take the odd photo now and then in one of the other modes but I can't get it to work all the time.

I use back button focus.
I've tried resetting the camera settings, different lenses and different sd cards. Tried manual focus and auto.

Googling I can see d800 users reporting the same problem and a firmware fix but my mobile Internet is naff and limited so research into d7200 is limited . Home Monday so guess I can figure it out then.

Alison have you tried re-formatting the card, or using a different card?

Hi there camcap.

How are you getting on with your D7200? Like you, I've currently got the D60 and looking to upgrade, and the D7200 is topping my wishlist. I've had my D60 for about 6 years now, so I'm guessing the D7200 is a massive step up. What are your thoughts? Image quality notibly better I assume?

It will knock the spots off of you're D60 in every way

Was just thinking the same - I think its menu setting A1 and A2 possibly?
The r12 is definitely the remaining shots but its something else stopping it taking pictures. Have you also tried normal AF (not back button)?

Hello mate all I can say is go and buy it now it's worlds apart from my old D60 I'm so happy with the pictures I'm getting from it, I was looking to get the D5300 but I'm glad I spent a bit more for the D7200, low light photos are amazing compared to the old D60, pictures just seem to have more of a wow factor about them hope this helps, you won't regret buying one

Did you keep the same lenses from your D60. I've currently got the 50mm 1.8 prime, and 18-200mm Nikon Lens, I suppose I'll be able to make the switch with these lenses with little bother?

Where did you order yours from? I've found one on Hdew for a little over £600, and it seems a steal. Got a baby on the way in a few months, so it'll definitely be used - seems like as good a reason as a y to upgrade :D
 
Those lenses will work no problem on a D7200. They will give exactly the same field of view as on the D60 as the sensor is the same size.

I kept my 35mm 1.8 but sold my kit 18-55 with the D60 and also my 70-300 sigma as I'll get a better zoom lens, I got mine from currys as I had a voucher that brought it to around the same price as Hdew and also meant I could get my free grip as it was a UK stock, but if I didn't have the voucher I would of got it from Hdew don't hesitate on getting one pal is a massive upgrade
 
Before I take the plunge on this, I assume my 50mm prime will auto focus with the 7200? It doesn't on the D60, due to lack of internal motor?

It's not a deal breaker if it doesn't, I'm just curious.

Yes the D7200 has a focus motor so will work with all the AF lenses :)

As long as it's an AF lens, yes.

One last thing - the built in wifi, does this allow you transfer photos to your phone/ipad/laptop etc while you're out and about, say on the top of a hill? Or does it require network access to connect the two?

Sorry for what may be a silly question.
 
It []should[/i] work but there can be issues, for example IIRC the NFC will only work with Android devices ... you will need to set up WiFi with your particular device of course.

It will work with Android or iOS wherever you are. The camera creates the wifi and the phone connects to that. No need for any other internet connecting.
