Tamron 17-50 f2.8? Cracking lens. Quite frequently up for sale in the classifieds too as people upgrade [emoji106]
 
I bought the VC version and it was very good. But in the end i upgraded to the Nikon version which was on a whole other level. Having said that though, it was nearly twice the price used of a new Tamron, more than twice the weight, had no VC/VR and was a much older design. The pro build quality was evident though and it would focus in some ridiculously low lighting situations. It was pretty sweet.

But as a general all rounder, the Tamron or indeed the Sigma OS version are both very nice capable lenses.

I bought my d7000 about 3 months ago, it was I felt the best camera I could budget for. I've been having a lot of fun with it since and have taken about 2.5k shots. Even though it is a five year old design it produces some lovely pictures (I feel the camera must take all the credit for that). I'm looking forward to owning it for a long time.

The non vc version is generally regarded (by members on here) to be the better lens. Don't take that as an endorsement though [emoji1]
Mine is a non vc and its great. The Nikon 17-55 is probably worth the extra cash if budget allows. I hired one and loved it.
 
First proper test with my new pair of D7200's at the weekend and couldn't be happier.

My main reasons for upgrade (from D7000's) were better ISO and bigger buffer and neither of those disappoint but it's the quality of all the images in general thats really surprised me. Need much less work in processing and are a much cleaner and more contrasty image.

Eats through batteries like nobodies business, just waiting for a decent cheap 3rd party grip to become available.
 
I've heard others complain about battery usage but I've not experienced it at all, but I'm finding in Lightroom I need loads more noise reduction compared to other cameras? I'm sure it's a Lightroom issue as if I did that much aggressive noise reduction on other cameras it would really soften the image

I obviously have plenty of spares but usually when I do a wedding I'll only use 50% of a batter in both bodies but with the D7200's they'd pretty much run down to 5%.

The sharpness difference is great for me. My D7000's images often needed sharpness adding but I've hardly touched sharpness or noise reduction on first look at these recent wedding images.
 
If it's UK brought u can get a free battery grip from Nikon I got one and couldn't be happier
 
Hopefully I'm going out tomorrow to get a D7200:)
I want one and my boy unsurprisingly wants my D7100 so I only have his D5100 to part ex.
Hoping the bigger buffer and a few other features such as the proper time lapse functions are worth it from the D7100.
Will be applying for the free grip too - same as I did with my 7100:)

Now the owner of a nice shiny new D7200:)
Was a bit of a kerfuffle sorting it out - ended up part exing my Sigma 120-400 and my boys D5100 with 18-55. My lad now has my old D7100 to replace his D5100.
Not really convinced I came off that well TBH but think my lad is over the moon with his new D7100.

Now just have to compare shots from the two of them to see if the 7200 is really any better.

I first went to Clifton Cameras in Dursley and they knocked down the quote they gave me online by quite a bit for no real reason. I declined their offer and went to London Camera Exchange in Gloucester who gave me £65 more than Cliftons original higher quote:)

I knew I could get more in a private sale but couldn't be doing with all the hassle - both stores in fairness also said I would get more privately.

Decided I was happy with the LCE offer so went for it.
 
I'm going to order a D7200 this weekend but unsure of the best place to buy it from I'm tempted to get it from panamoz and save £200 but a little worried about warranty. If I get it from a UK retailer ill get the battery grip which I would eventually buy anyway so both options would come in at the same price.
I have an old canon 450d to sell or trade in aswell, has anyone managed to get a better deal from a shop ie get them to throw in a free memory card or spare battery etc.

You might be able to get them to throw in a spare SD card (the D7200 has dual card slots) but doubt you'll blag a battery as they are around £50 for a genuine one. Worth a try though as ideally you need an extra for the grip.
If you do get a D7200 and apply for the free grip don't make the same mistake I did (now rectified) - I couldn't find the warranty card to fill in (it used to be a yellow card) it's now printed on the back cover of the manual - you need to fill it in and send a copy of that and your receipt to Nikon to get the grip.

I'm normally good at getting shops to reduce there prices or throw in free stuff
 
No just wondering as I paid £850 on Monday for body only. Price for body plus lens was £950 hence asking as this price was in the middle.
Could have been expensive for body only or cheap for kit deal.
 
I've recently got a Nikon 7200 and it's great. But it's showing my old 18-55 and 18-150 lens up a bit. What's the best walkabout lens which will bring out this cameras full potential? Sigma and Tamron worth considering?

I have the Nikon 17-55 which is great but optically the Tamrom 17-55 non VC is just as good, just lacks the build quality of the Nikon.

I had one for my D90 and D7000 and it produced really nice results.
 
I'm using the Nikon 24-70 as my main lens (hope to go full frame eventually) but have had the Tamron 17-55 non VC and for the money it's hard to beat. Cracking image quality, relatively light but not built quite so well as the Nikon version. Most people tend to agree the non VC version is better.
 
Thanks, I'll look in to the Tamron. Will an amateur like me notice an upgrade in sharpness from my current lenses?

The wider apertures with portraits are where you will notice the difference or if you shoot in low light.

If you like taking photos of people, the difference it will make to your images can be significant.

I went from a kit lens to the Tamron, first shot I took made me smile from the depth of field id never had with the kit. Be cautious though, it gives you the bug for better glass, it's addictive.

Yay - my free grip from Nikon arrived in the post today:)
3rd time I've got a free grip from them now.
 
Am I right that the D7200 is screw drive so old lens will work on the D7200 body?

Can you recommend a lens for all round photography? I would be buying in uk I don't mind pre owned as long as the glass is good.
