Nikon D7xxx owners thread

Well having taken about 400 shots with the D7200, its going back. I get to try Panamoz's customer service.
Exposure is inconsistant and the autofocus is worse than my D7100 by quite a margin. Also just noticed what appears to be a large oil spot on the sensor. May see if they will take the difference and go for a D750.
 
A few days ago Pmoz swapped a Canon 7D2 with AF issues for a Nikon D750/24-120 kit for me. IN MY EXPERIENCE I cannot fault Pmoz's Customer Service.

What's that old saying, a bad workman always blames his tools:eek:, only joking no problems on mine apart for ME :), hope what ever you get works outs ok

My D7100 performs brilliantly as did the D7000 before that. This is the first time Ive seen this. if I thought for a moment it was pilot error and I could change something to improve the test shots Ive takenI would be more than happy. However, having used the D7100 since it was introduced, and therefore being very familiar with the controls which are just about identical to the D7200, im certain it is the camera which is at fault. As for oil on the sensor after only a few hours usage.............I thought the D600 fiasco had maybe put paid to that type of thing.
 
Just ordered one from Panamoz. Have a D7100 but really feeling the pain with the limited buffer. Love the camera but not the locking up right at the moment when I need to get a shot.

Should hopefully be here early next week :)
 
Well - my D7200 has no covered 2 Weddings, a pre-Wedding shoot, and OCF portrait workshop and a Landscape Photo Holiday in the last 4 weeks

It works perfectly, is better in every respect than my great D7000(s) are and I doubt I could be happier with it - except - the battery doesn't last anything like as long as in the D7000 so I've had to buy 2 more of them, which is fine

im not surprised its better than the D7000, my D7100 knocked spots off an already good D7000 and was a bigger step change than D7100 to D7200. Great customer service from Panamoz though as they have agreed to take it back and Ive upgraded my order to the D750.

I have been using a nice pice of software Free Download called qDSLRDashboard it enables you to tether your D7200 Via Wifi to a PC in my case a Asus Zenbook running W8.1 :)

Oh it also works with Sony & Canon

As my D7200 had faulty AF, cant compare properly to D7100. Ive replaced the faulty unit with the D750 and thats a cracking camera which is much better all round than the D7100. I assume a properly working D7200 would be closer to the D750, with the advantage to birders of the longer reach provided by DX but I think I will wait for a D7300 before upgrading my DX body.

Just received my d7200 in the post. Have only had a chance to take a few test shots this evening but hoping to have a better play this weekend. The Wifi + iOS app is pretty impressive for remote liveview and triggering.

Compared to my d300 it's definitely a lot lighter and more compact. Less buttons as well but i'm sure i'll get used to it :)
 
:agree: I like that a lot. Also, seems to have kept some good detail @ ISO 3200 compared to my old D7100.
 
So, I am thinking of lens upgrades. I have the kit 18-105 and the 50mm 1.8 D prime. The kit lens is so slow I think. I'd love a long telephoto lens like a 120 - 400 but that will leave me with nothing at the wide end. I have been considering a 24 - 120 or the 28 - 70.

Any recommendations?

I do family photos in our house etc of our child
I would also like to take photos of animals far and free like whales in the ocean (aspirations here)

I will keep my prime.

Never used anything but JPEG on my Nikon DSLRs - good enough for me.
Same focus problem fixed for me by Nikon under warranty - often wished I'd kept my D90..........
 
Still got my D7000 and I'm looking out for a spare for use in the future. Think I'll hoard away hundreds of them.
 
You've been asked to be at the finish line of a popular race, with a wide funnel to "suck" in the athletes as they complete their half-marathon race. What settings would you use (Nikon D7000), in regard to focus mode? I'm fine with speed, aperture etc. If there are 4 or 5 runners coming in together, would it focus on the nearest body to the camera? I used AF-C mode last Sunday but tired after 4 hrs of shooting around the course and then at the finish line. I know, read the manual.
 
Well after a lot of thinking and saving it looks like I'm going to be upgrading from my old D60 to the D7200 this weekend, and as a little bonus it's seem Nikon are now offering a free battery grip with it, happy days. Can't wait to get one it's going to be a massive step up for me I look forward to joing the D7200 club lol
 
What cards are you guys using as there are a few 95 MBs like Lexar, sandisk and others
 
Have just seen that Nikon are now offering a free grip with the D7200. I think I may just have found the excuse I was looking for to ditch my D7000.
 
Anyone used the d7200 with the older 300mm f4, thinking about possibly getting one for a bit of birding/wildlife and maybe adding a 1.4 TC too

Assuming your talking about the AFS version and not the AFD, I have used the AFS with the D7100 and it was an excellent lens, I just didn't like the D7100. Captured some excellent detail in the smaller birds. If your going for a TC, I would get the Nikon v2, I had a Kenko on mine and it was s***.

The setup is the basic recomendation if your serious and want to start off with a tidy prime and TC. You wont go far wrong. The Sigma and Tamron super zooms look good also.

Yeah I have looked at them but want something a bit smaller than them for now. And yeah it would be a Nikon tc. Original thoughts were a tamron 70-300. I guess it will depend on budget at the time

I have had a couple of the Tamrons 70-300VC and the Nikon 70-300VR, I prefered the Tamron. Although the Tamrons were very good the 300mm f4 is in a different league IMO. I only sold mine as it was too heavy for me handholding. If your budget can stretch, go for it, you often see it written on here invest in the glass first and body second. Not that I take much notice of it though:D

HDEW have them for £699 and body for £645. it's a fair wedge for a second system, unless your selling your Fuji??? The fuji 100-400 is still possibly about 12 months away, so it's deciding what to do in the mean time?
 
Haha to be honest I've always had decent glass, always been f1.8-2.8.

No I will keep the Fuji as I love it but as you well know it just struggles for this sort of shooting at the minute. V4 has helped but it won't be there until the 100-400 is here.

I could possible get the tamron and then save for the 300 f4 pf. But I just know if I do it that way I'll end up with the 70-300, 300 and 100-400... Maybe not such a bad thing ;)
 
Is the 100-400 going to change the AF of the Fuji though?? Probably come with XT2, there must surely be a limit what can be done with FW updates. I never found the AF lacking for my needs at the time, but after using the D750 there is a big difference. I have just sold my D750 and some lenses and I am going to re-buy with the 24-120 f4 and see how I get on, I should have done it the last couple of occasions I bought them. I'm trying to make the effort to go out more and try some landscapes / seascapes, getting a little bored of garden bird photography.

I have been thinking what tele to buy next, would love the new 300pf but it is going to take a little while for me to get the cash together for that. The lightness and the VR over the AFS version will be beneficial for me. I have a little niggle in the back of my mind about the iQ of the 600mm zooms over the 300mm primes, but the reach is something else along with the flexability of the zoom. Also, looking at some threads the pf takes a x2 TC very well.

I need to have operations on my elbows so in no rush at present for a tele lens.

I would buy a D7200 but I didn't like the D7100, grip, iso etc........... So I am little reluctant to try one after using the D750 and I can't afford both.

Decisions, decisons, it's not easy is it! :confused:
 
Well it won't match the d750 in performance but it's the extra reach I'm thinking of without spending a fortune on lenses.

I think I've pretty much convinced myself that I now 'need' one. Unfortunately, for me at least, this will necessitate getting rid of some old kit to appease the evil spirit that haunts the house I live in. The really bad thing is, that over the course of over 30 years, I've not really got rid of any of the gear I've acquired. It's stuffed away in boxes and bags, here and there. I think the time has come to rationalise. I know, deep down, that I'll never use the majority of the stuff I've got ever again. But the thought of getting rid of it is quite unsettling.

There's still a part of me that hankers for a full frame camera. But I value my man bits too much.

Well, I decided to take the plunge on this back focus button option and being a left eye user my big fat thumb get's in the way, so much so that I have to move the viewfinder forward of my face which I am then at risk of camera shake, would one of those Hoodman eyepieces assist with the problem, I can't possibly use my right eye.
