Nikon D7xxx owners thread

I took 4 shots in the various modes:-
12 bit compressed - 25.6 MB
12 bit lossless compressed - 28.7 MB
14 bit compresses - 31.6MB
14 bit lossless compressed - 33.8 MB

Not as much variation as i thought there may be.

Does that mean you have received yours?

Yep!

One thing i cant seem to work is the release lock when using afon.

On the d300s i set a custom setting to not take a shot unless focus was achieved. You can do this on the 7100, but if you choose to set a button as afon it appears this is ignored.

Should be the same as the D7000...

Go to Menu-custom setting menu-autofocus-AFC selection and choose focus. Same for AF-S.

I had those set up for focus already, but ive been shown! You need to keep the finger on the button you selected for afon. Once you take the finger off this button the shutter will release regardless of focus.

PS, focus in low light is better than my d300s. Locks quickly on a my living room curtain at f1.8, 1/40s, iso 6400, 35mm 1.8g. Wish i had some interesting pics but down with man flu....

Since i havent been outside the house its hard to tell. I havent shot much interesting at high iso so havent processed any high iso shots through lightroom. and viewing at 100% on the rear lcd isnt going to give an accurate impression, but initial guess, i would say approx 1.5 to 2 stops advantage at higher iso.

Smae problem last year when they were even more expensive and then Nikon brought out a cashback a few weeks after i got mine. I wrote - they said no.

Still I would write to them if it was me. The same thing happened to me when I bought my Sony A350 and Sony did send me a cheque :D. I know its a different company and it was few years ago but hey, it worked for me.

Been looking forward to this but now I'm a bit concerned my laptop will not be up to the task of editing images from this camera. My laptop has a i5 core processor and 6gb of ram, I could potentially upgrade that to 8gb but that's as much as it will take, what do you guys think?

If you have a local camera store you can always snap some shots on your memory card and then edit them on your laptop and see how it goes?

Are you processing raw files? If you just shoot JPEGs you will be ok but RAWs might be a bit of a struggle. My Core 2 Duo with 4GB Macbook Pro was a little bit slow with the D7000 / K-5 which only had 16MP, my new MBA with an i5 8GB and SSD is very noticeably better but not sure how it would do with 24MP.

As suggested go grab a few RAW pictures with a 24MP camera and try play around with them and see how your computer does.

I just filled in the cash back form for and sent it off with my receipt, it was dated a week before the offer but worth a try.

Cheers guys, didn't think about that :) I wonder if there's somewhere I could download some from?

Hi guys,

I've had my D7000 for about 4 weeks now & twice I've had an error message "ERR". I press the shutter & on both occasions it sounds like the camera is going through the process of a very slower shutter action, I've rad the manual & it states contact Nikon.

Any ideas before I do?

Thanks
Rob

It probably best to send it back to them if that's what the manual says. I had a memory card issue on my first outing, i returned it to the shop I brought I from and they soon sorted it out.

Alfy, just wondering if you considered anything else when you bought the a sigma?

I did spend quite a bit if time thinking about which lens to choose but I was pretty naive at the time.

I've been really happy with the lens and don't have any plans to replace it but if I was going to make the decision again I'd look at the Tamron 17-50 and the Nikon 16-85. They both seem popular on here.

Thanks Ian, I'm a bit torn to be honest, I'm off to Paris at the end of April and I know my 35 1.8 will do a fine job but I'd like to take something wider to go with it.

I was considering the Nikon 24mm f2.8 prime which seems reasonably cheap as I do prefer a prime lens but I've got looking at the "walkaround zooms" like the 17-50, 17-70 and 16-85 and also the UWA zooms like the 11-16 and I'm a bit torn to be honest!

Nice, thanks . Can you please post 100% crops? or may be upload full size images to flickr

can you not 'view all sizes'?

BTW these were shot handheld around sunset, so not the best pictures for viewing at 100%.

This might be a bit of a random question, but have any of the early owners found the resolution available is causing issues with the lenses available in a simialr way to D800 owners allegedly finding their camera out resolves their lenses.

The reason I ask is I have the option to buy a D7100 for underwater work, but it will take up a very large part of my budget, probably leaving me only with the option of a sigma 150-500mm as my topside wildlife lens, and I have a few reservations on getting this lens - far too many conflicting reports all over the t'interweb

Anyone know somewhere this is actually in stock and ready for delivery?

Been looking around and it seems most places have either run out and trying to fulfil pre orders and don't know when more will be coming and how many they will be getting.

Lovely shots mate. Can I ask what lens these were taken with?

Nikon 10 24. Glad you like the shots, i must have driven to dunraven bay half a dozen times over the past month or 2 and the light / sky has always been rubbish, glad to get a half decent sunset for once!

Yeah you did good there. Im looking at getting a wide angle lens for this myself and those shots look nice and crisp.

Just to update everyone & maybe help other peeps with the same problem. I spoke to nikon this afternoon who informed me that it might be my memory card.

I changed the card for a recommended Sandisk k had no errors so far.....will keep you all posted.
