Nikon D7xxx owners thread

Anyone use this lens on their D7000? How does it perform?

Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD IF mkII + motor (Nikon Fit)

I don't have the pennies for the Nikon version :(

I was thinking of getting the Tamron 17-50, so I went to try one in Jessops and thought it was great for the money... but then I compared it to the Nikon 16-85 VR and it's a whole different ball game, IMHO... the contrast seemed to be better, the AF was quicker, and the lens was noticeably sharper, even just chimping the LCD in the shop...

If you can possibly go the extra money, go for the 16-85...

After a fair bit of research and a good old discussion with myself (to convince myself I didn't need to blow the extra money on a FF in D700 form), I've decided to get a D7000.

Time to upgrade the D40x and the D7000 seems like it's a good enough camera to last me a good few years.

Reading this thread has been very handy and I'll make sure to return after I've got it in my hands!

No argument that the 16-85 is a very good lens, but a constant f2.8 it is not of course.

Im in the process of trying to make my mind up on which camera to upgrade to from my D90, either the D700 or the D7000.

I basically want better IQ in low light and a better AF system.

Can anyone reason with me and shout the benefits of the D7000 for/against the D700 to go wit my other research?

No, that's very true... but I figured that the only real benefit of the Tamron - to me, at least - was the DOF. The performance at higher ISOs of the D7000 combined with the VR sort of removed the lens speed from the equation, and the shallow DOF of the Tamron didn't quite outweigh the longer reach, quicker focussing and better quality available with the 16-85... That's only my opinion, mind... At the end of the day, it's down to individual priorities...

Thanks for that :) It's the 2.8 that is attracting me to the Tamron as I have a Nikon 18-200 VR 3.5-5.6 and the 2.8 would be great even though I know I can bump up the ISO on the D7000. mmm decisions decisions!

Depends a bit also on how many and what lenses you have, it could become expensive getting all FX lenses. Both have better IQ in low light and better AF than the D90.

Took the plunge and ordered the Tamron 17-50 2.8 from WEX, roll on next week! :)

Hi All,

Looks like I might get offered a D7000 soon and just wondered how well the Sigma 150-500mm F5.6-6.3 OS HSM Lens will work with the D7000.
It would be for fast action sport/motorsport.

Anybody have any experience?

All advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Del

Just wondering, does anyone here use a D7000 for shooting things like weddings, concerts and other low light-y things regularly?

I know a full frame will be much improved noise wise, but this would give a much lower cost of entry back into the world of SLR's for me. I've recently fallen in love with Nikon's again mostly due to the specs of this camera and what I keep hearing about it's performance in High-ISO being great for a crop sensor.

And after years of Canon 1D use I found the 5D MK II's archaic and unbearable to use, whereas this really feels like a little pro body. And I no longer have investment in Canon, so might as well switch! :)

Ordered a MB-d11 from Amazon last night with 7 mins to spare for next day delivery

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00436G2OU/ref=oss_product

Arrived 5 mins ago well done amazon

Fake

Not so well done amazon.

They have a picture of a legit one but then send you one like this
http://fstoppers.com/fakembd11

The green unlock symbol gives it away the coloured pointers should also be white NOT grey.

Oh and the serial number is 2001306

The same as pretty much all the other fakes on the Internet.

Going to try and register serial with nikon to see if it'll tell me its fake so I can report the seller

i ordered a non nikon one from the bay for £36 and its just fine for what i need, buttons work ok quality is good enough for me too

Oh dear. I got an official Nikon non fake one via a Malaysian seller on EBay. But yes you don't expect amazon to sell fake stuff, they should really vet their market place.

Had an email back from amazon. Looks like they have actually read my email and provided an actual response from an actual person.

Whether or not it'll be actioned on I dont know. But at least someone has looked at it.

Well the D7000 arrived yesterday. Not had too much time to play as of yet but first impressions are - wow.

A serious improvement over the D40x!

No vetting involved. I just signed up to sell a Nikon lens on Amazon, withdrew it straight away as I'm selling on another site and just wanted to see how it works and the costs involved. Was surprised how easy it was, my ad was up within 5 mins, so probably loads of fake stuff being sold on there.

Shot a ridiculous number of pictures today, sort/edit time for a while now.

The AF is so good on this camera once you're dialed in. Can keep up with people barreling toward/away from you, switches when you want it to (or not), keeps focus during sequence shots...(not done today, but it's also pretty isilly in low light - it will lock focus without the assit lamp when it's too dark to reliably manually focus).

That sounds amazing, something my Canon's never did.

I keep hearing about the AF becoming responsive and then having to turn the camera on and off to get it to work again, have you had that happen yet?

In 4212 images I had that happen once, then I realised I accidentally switched on focus lock, pure user error.

Actually I had it whilst shooting at an airshow. It happened twice on consecutive days.

But I had been caning it 1000+ shots in a couple of hours.

Haven't had it happen except on an AF-D 50/1.8, and that seemed to be because it wasn't seated properly.

Focus otherwise is pretty sweet:

Any update on this? they still seem to be selling them

Anyone got any pointers I should know before I buy this camera, will be getting one in the next couple of days as an upgrade from my ageing D40.

Yes - Download the manual and start reading - despite my comments about Nikon manuals in another thread.

I have made the decision to sell mine. Amazing piece of kit and lives up to the label 'baby D700' that's been banded about.

Sadly the viewfinders of crop cameras just aren't for me so I'll be moving back to fullframe once I've sold up.

That's a shame but you have to be happy with it. What will you go for?

My Tamron 17-50 2.8 has arrived, impressed with a few snaps in the house. Off for the weekend, can't wait to test it properly! Will also get using the D7000 a fair bit this weekend after the focus was fixed. See how it goes!

I'm looking at the D700 and the 5DMKII, both of which I've owned previously so I'm fairly familiar with the pros and cons of each.

I think the D700 is probably the best camera I've ever owned but I'm leaning towards the Canon. The current pricing is very tempting and they have some wonderful (and affordable L primes).

I'm also seriously considering the new Samyang 35 & 85 f1.4 lenses. These are amongst the sharpest lenses I've ever seen and cost less than £400 each.

Either way my plan is to stick with just two lenses - 35mm and 85mm. For what I like to shoot these are perfect focal lengths on fullframe.

I havn't had time to open the box yet I'm still in shock, please tell me that was a good move.
Heres to happy days.

Blinding move :D Open the box! Open the box!!!

You wont regret it :)

Hi

Seriously considering the D7000 as my first DSLR. I've been using a Fuji bridge camera for the last 4 years so I have a decent grounding in using Apperture/Shutter priority modes etc etc so I'm not in the least bit daunted by owning a camera such as the D7000.

I'm also considering the Canon 60D, which I prefer the feel of in my hand. But I can't shake the feeling that I'd be buying an inferior camera (on paper) if I got the 60D, especially as it's £20 more than the D7000!

I just need to pick one up again and get a feel for whether I'll like it in my hands or not.

Don't think youll hear anyone in this thread speak against the D7000. However if you don't like it in your hands don't get it.

Yeah refunded in full IncP&P from Amazon Got a grovelling email from the seller but I had already purchased another off Ebay (yes I know) £185 And its Legit.

There is a fair difference between the fake and the genuine grip. After a bit of research it looks like the fake one is identical to the neweer ones. But £140 more ( for the fake Nikon box)

I didnt like it in my hands at first the canon felt better but all the reviews said get the D7k. Now it feels so natural I think it was just down to not knowing how to hold the camera comfortably. That and it was my 1st camera so anything would have felt odd.

Now its gripped it feels all new again

Yes I have got my grip on it for most of the time.
