Nikon D7xxx owners thread

Hi guys, I'm wondering if any of you have changed the eye piece on your D7000? I'm looking for something with a greater magnification and a rubber pronounced eyecup.

This will stop me from scratching the camera with my glasses and hopefully feel more comfortable when pressed against my face.

Fingers crossed will have mine by tomorrow

Did yours arrive? I had mine delivered Saturday and haven't been able to put it down since. Just ordered a Tokina 11-16mm, gonna have some fun with that. What lenses have you got or are thinking of buying?

Decision made. There be primes in daddy's camera bag

Nikkor AF 24mm f2.8D
Nikkor AF-S 35mm f1.8 (Purchased today)
Nikkor AF-S 50mm f1.8 (Purchased today)
Nikkor AF 85mm f1.8D

They demand a lot more thought to get the picture just right but those extra stops really call to me - subject isolation yumminess!

Nothing special just a snapshot to test the camera. I won't get to really test it until the weekend. I'm fairly impressed with noise control at higher ISO settings, this isn't bad for 2800 and I'm sure lightroom could do a good cleanup job if I needed it to.

just bought a d7000 off amazon with kit lens. Hope i don't regret it as i've just sold my d300s, was not very happy with iso above 800. Plan is to sell the kit lens 18-105mm at around £150 as i have a 16-85mm. let me know if anyone wants the 18-105mm.

Okay so I am puzzled. I have a D300 and a D7000 and both are fantastic cameras. I won't part with either. I regularly use the D300 at 1600 ISO with impressive results. Likewise the D7000 puts in an excelent performance in this area. Although I've not made direct comparrisons I would say there is nothing much between them on this issue. I've been thinking of buying a D300s so if this is an issue I would like to know more about it.
Time to put Google to work !

besides forget about 1600 ISO, just take a look at that sample from John at 2800 ISO. That is rather good Gingerweasel...

I'm planning on upgrading from the D5000 to D7000 in the next couple of weeks, this thread has been really useful. Seems to cope well at 2800 ISO. Can't wait to get my hands on one now!

I've got it!!!!!!!

I'm now a proud D7000 owner :woot:

Now to get that battery charged and get busy taking photos!

Thanks Gingerweazel. Checked out the link. Interesting. Maybe I'll run a side by side test of the
D300 & D7000 on higher ISO settings. If and when I get round to it I'll post results in pics for anyopne who is interested.

Yep, I'd be interested

Got my D7000 today, thanks to my husband haggling with the man in the camera shop to bring it down to a good price. Battery is charged up and I've just had a quick play, but really need to sit down and look at it carefully tomorrow, so much to take in after the d5000

Enjoy the new camera Claire

Enjoy!

Been out for the afternoon for my first serious trial of the D7000 and was slightly aprehensize after reading about some of the focusing problems people had been talking about earlier in this thread but didn't find I had any problems at all and very happy with the results.

However will need to get more storage space for these larger file sizes I'm now taking!

Hello Pinkjay, fancy seeing you here! Enjoying it so far, but looking forward to my Dummies guide arriving in a couple of days so I can get my head around some of the more complicated stuff! Put up a couple of photos on flickr today, focus seems OK (fingers crossed!).

I had focus issues with my 70-200, but it was almost certainly mostly due to the lens (needs -20 when at 200mm, which is where i use it 80% of the time) being off rather than the body. The 105, 50 and 17-50 all seem fine. Can't really tell with the 10-20  So I'll be sending it off to be adjusted soon as it's right at the edge of what can be corrected in body.

When I do go into store, think I'll ask to have a play with the 24mm PC-E.

Here's one from last week with the 10-20:

 a camera club friend pointed me in the direction of here a few weeks back :)

Glad you have no focus issues! I'm hoping to hear from Calumet tomorrow about mine, hopefully Nikon are fixing mine. At least I have calumets loan D7000 in the meantime. Will have a nosey on flickr :)

Cool shot:)

Auseammao - nice shot

I still haven't had a chance to get out and give the camera a good bashing but I'm very impressed with the image IQ even at high ISO.

Here is a quick shot from this evening, one with no processing just resized for web and the other with some light work to increase contrast and remove noise.

I think the unedited image stands up well but even with minimal post processing I think the files clean up brilliantly.

So finally going in tomorrow to get the 70-200 sent off for adjustment. Am going to try out the 24mm PC-E just to see whether it can tilt and shift properly on the D7000. And yeah, you'll definitely like the camera Dave :).

I had the chance to get out with the camera yesterday and take some shots around the city centre. On the whole it handled well but I still find the viewfinder far too small and dingy.

Here are a few of my shots:

It's the same size as the D300's finder, so if it's too dark it'd have to be an FX or film SLR for you. How are you finding the rest of it?

I'm going to look at the x2 magnifying eyepiece and see what that does for me.

After a few hours of shooting you really start to appreciate the weight difference from the heavier pro cameras.

A few shots required me to push the ISO up in order to increase the shutter speed and I didn't hesitate. ISO performance really is excellent.

I had one issue about halfway through the day were the camera wouldn't focus. I'm not sure what I did but pressing the shutter release did nothing. I powered off the camera and turned it back on which sorted the problem.

The smaller body was actually more comfortable than I'd expected, and worked out really well when it came to adjusting settings (including ISO) without moving the camera from my eye.

I had no problem with speed but then again I tend to shoot single shots and avoid rapid bursts.

Big thumbs up from me

Well its here and seems in good nick, which is nice

Havent done much bar fiddle with the menus, which seem to go on for ever and do a few test shots to check it all works

You guys arent kidding about the high ISO stuff :D

Am considering getting the battery grip at some point. What ones should I consider or avoid?

I got the official Nikon one via eBay through Malaysia was about £115 delivered iirc.

Gingerweasel love the shot of the rough sleeper and wembley?? If I saw it correctly.

Never saw the point of grips myself. The in camera battery is good for over a thousand shots while powering a 70-200, and bar photographing a weddng, I can't see myself getting through that in a day. Doesn't help balance if you hold like I do and pivot the lens in your left hand (that way everything is inherently balanced), so seemed like unnecessary weight compared to nothing or at worst a spare in the bag. And it takes up room a lens would :p

So 70-200 is off to be recalibrated, and tried out the 24mm PC-E...Oh wow . As far as it's possible to be infatuated with an inanimate object, I am. I can be a good boy for another 6 months...

I must admit that I didn't get my grip for the battery but primarily for portrait work. I find that more comfortable to hold with the shutter button and control wheels upright.

I got this one from fleabay, Great quality and does what it says on the tin. Had it for a few months and have no problems at all. Even has the battery chamber for AA's in case of emergencies.
