Nikon D7500 or Fuji X-H1?

Right. I’ve asked a similar question before, done a lot of research and looked at discussions on forums. Also watched loads of YouTube reviews. Have now narrowed it down to the question whether to get a D7500 or XH1.

Background: I have the XT20 which is nice but kinda small (yes I know!) and it doesn’t work with my larger zoom lens. It’s too fiddly to hold and the larger lens is just nit ideal in such a small body.

Also could do with a better/larger viewfinder and the image stabilisation sounds cool.

I still like DSLRs though and there’s something about the shutter click of my old D90 that makes me crave a DSLR. Sigh...

Having invested in three Fuji lenses (18-55, 27 and 55-200) I’m kind of feeling invested in the Fuji system.

Having said that I’ve got two good Nikon lenses and if I were to go for a new Nikon the expense of buying a further Nikon wouldn’t break the bank (most DX lenses are actually quite reasonable in price compared to Fuji).

I could keep the Xt20 as a second camera because of its size - especially with the pancake lens a good set up to carry around in a small bag.

Now, there are various offers on at the moment which means that I could get either the XH1 or the D7500 for roughly the same price.

As those who’ve read my questions before may recall (thanks all for your continued input!) I shoot mainly pictures of my family (children and dog) but also a bit of nature, landscape (going to the Alps later this year) and flora & fauna....

What matters to me is a fast (very fast) autofocus, best possible shutter lag, and good buffer. (Think D500 but can’t afford that)

Yes battery life is a blow with Fuji but not a deal breaker.

Any thoughts? Have I missed the obvious consideration which would make a decision really easy??

Well if you look around the D7500 can be had substantially cheaper than the x-h1.

My day carry camera is either and X-T2 with 18-55 or D500 with 16-80.
The Nikon’s sensor (same as in 7500) and lens is the equal of the Fuji in terms of image quality. The broader focal length of the Nikon is most useful.
Fuji is nice and light and small. I had the X-T20 and it marries well with the 18-55.

Personally if you want to buy now I would go with the Nikon. Or wait until Fuji bring out their 16-80 lens in 2019.

I have discounted the IBIS on the X-h1 as your main lenses have VR.

D7500 allegedly has the same AF system as the D500 which, IMO, is the best AF system available bar the D5.
 
I have no experience with the XH1 but i do have the D7500 and it’s a cracking camera,
Been using mine for the past 8 months and I like it,
As above it has most of the D500’s internals such as the same sensor and same af system,
Lower FPS and single card slot really only separates the D7500 from the flagship D500 in my opinion,
Can’t comment on the XH1 but that’s my opinion on the D7500
 
There’s nothing wrong with battery life on the XH-1, I can get 1000 shots on one battery.

The two systems are so different that you’re just going to get fans of each manufacturer recommending what they use.

This is precisely what happens every time these questions appear.

From a neutral point, I would say go Nikon if you already have a bunch of lenses and can't be bothered trading/selling to make up funds for Fuji - if not, I'd personally go with the XH1, because I'm a sucker for IBIS. It is the main reason I switched to M43
 
Thank you all for your replies. I think what I’m trying to do is justifying the fact that I bought those Fuji lenses but find that at least the 55-200 doesn’t really work with the X-T20. To justify that purchase I’m now thinking that my second camera should be a bigger Fuji. But actually maybe the Nikon is the obvious choice.

I had the 55-200, it's a fairly light lens, don't see why it doesn't work out on the XT20?
 
I just find the set up difficult to balance... I even got a grip but not finding that helps much.
