the D750 has been around since 2014. Do we know if Nikon are planning to replace it any time soon? Am thinking of going full frame but don't want to but a pair of 750 bodies if something better is on the way....

Any ideas guys and gals?

Thanks.

Your guess is as good as anybody's tbh. The replacement for the D810 and the D750 have been rumoured for quite a while, but as yet there's no sign. Rumours were they'd announce the D810 replacement at the end of April, but that's been and gone. If it's like last time the D810 replacement will come first with the D750 replacement several months later, but who knows ;)

What we can be sure of is a high release price if other recent releases are anything to go by. If the D7500 is anything to go by I wouldn't be surprised if the D750 replacement is limited in features to make an upgrade path towards the next step (i.e. D810 replacement). I would say we are looking at a similar setup to the D500 and D7500 if both the D750 and D810 are upgraded close together. I can honestly see one SD card slot and no battery grip option in the D750 replacement as it would make a distinction between the two models and lead more towards the higher more expensive model. That of course needs Nikon to follow a design plan through the ranges and we know their thinking can be a little ad-hoc!

wasn't there some talk about sony not being as forthcoming with sensors as well, wander if that will change any release plans

I think that would be a grave mistake tbh. I don't know what their game is with the D7500 is, but as the D750 was a great success for Nikon I think they'd be crazy to 'dumb it down'. A single card slot would make me instantly dismiss it no matter how good the rest is.

I think it would make sense for Nikon to keep the FF line up as it is, i.e. D7xx as a relatively cheap great all rounder, D8xx as the high res high high DR monster, and the D5 as the high end sports cam. Of course if they made the D820 a 42mp (with the option of a 24mp setting), high DR, with min 7fps and tilt screen then there'd be no need for me to even look at another camera. Trouble is it'll be around £3500, so they'd still need an 'entry level' FF camera.

I've read conflicting info so who knows.

a better camera is only as good as the idiot behind the viewfinder !!

I personally can't see them dumbing down the D750 replacement that much, as Nikon still include it in their "professional" line of cameras.

The recent cameras in the DX lineup that have had questionable specs are very much enthusiast cameras - so I can see Nikons logic to an extent here, to create separation against the professional grade bodies.

I can see them killing off the D6xx line though, and having the D7xx, D8xx and D5 in the FF lineup.

A replacement is heavily rumoured for this year, but at the end of the day - if you need / want to upgrade now, the camera will still be as good as it is now, even if a new one comes along with fancier specs.

Worth bearing in mind the replacement will probably be considerably more expensive, where as D750 prices won't fall that much more, as they've already come down a fair bit since launch.

The thing is for the D750 I'm not sure exactly what they're going to upgrade, I'd say its unlikely that they're going to dramatically upgrade the sensor to much more than the existing 24mp and the AF is already excellent for most uses.

I fully expect the D810 replacement to feature the 42mp Sony Sensor thats in the A7rii and A99ii but unless they choose the existing 36mp Sony sensor (which must now be quite old) thats in the D810, A7r and K1 I'm not sure where they go with it for the D750 replacement.

I'm wondering if the 810 will be upgraded to 42MP and they put the current 810 sensor into the 750. Cost doesn't worry me too much, mind you, AC in Dublin currently have 750 body only for £1,299.00 inc shipping.......

Buy one.... unless you really need more pixels. Really can't see what more you'd really need on a camera.

Yeah there's not much they can upgrade and keep the costs reasonable and not start taking sales away from other lines. Maybe the shutter will go up to 1/8000, and it will probably get touchscreen (which is of no use to me). I would imagine it will inherit a version of the D5's AF system, albeit with a smaller spread due to the mirror size. FPS might go up to 7, but I'd be surprised if they make it higher. The big thing for me is buffer, if they can make it 30-40 shots rather than 12-15 that'd be a big plus for me.

I'd find 42mp handy for cropping, but I'd also want a 20-24mp option for normal shooting.
