Nikon D750 & D780

Bloody sheep!

A Lonk entered the shed for a show today, turned left and leapt straight at me, knocking me flat on my back. I had a camera on each shoulder and as I hit the deck I heard a cracking noise. Thankfully not the sound of skull cracking, but glass and plastic. The other camera seems to have been saved by landing on the lens hood, which now has a crack in it.

Everything seems to work as it should still. Gaffer tape should see me right! I'll also try a screen protector to hold things together.

Chucked mine in for a service with Fixation, having new rubbers and the port covers is a minor thing that pleases me. Desert heat, sweat and suncream destroyed them over the last 6 months

Some photos.

some cracking images there, just goes to show you what a great camera the 750 is, even today.

Thank you, it still does everything I want it to do and I realy enjoyed being able to flex some creative muscles using it!

I am toying with downsizing as lugging some of the gear on a few hikes was knackering; but I am also toying with the idea of remaining with it for a while and buying a smaller pocket camera for walks etc

I feel like the last one using a D750 on here, but I bought a 58mm before Christmas and it’s bloody fantastic!
My D780s are my main cameras but I'm still using one of mine as a 'knockabout' camera with an ancient and cheap Tamron 24-135

Although a Z8 is my main camera, the D750 gets lots of use around this time of year because it works perfectly with the flash and the Z8 doesn't instead really struggling to get AF lock at all indoors in low light. I've been trying a number of Z8 solutions but when the D750 works perfectly it's just easier to go with it and doesn't really lose much to the Z8 for this use. The only issue my D750 is damaged from a drop and it's mostly fine except the viewfinder data is missing and occasionally the shutter malfunctions, it's annoying but makes it more difficult to justify buying another one.

I took am still using my D750 as a second body when I have to shoot with both the 24-70 and 70-200 but am looking at getting another mirrorless body to change the D750, the EVF on the mirrorless makes it easier for me to shoot.

I always loved my D750, a very capable camera indeed. I don't think cameras have moved on much in terms of image quality over the past 10+ years, as you say the D750 can still hold it's own against the latest and greatest. Obviously cameras have moved on in other areas, but if all you're interested in is the final image quality then cameras like the D750 are just as good as anything else.

I saw that. If you want a bargain then D500s seem to have dropped to £700 for a half decent one.

Back to the D750 after a few years with no camera. I went old school because I'm really short of money and I wouldn't have been able to offer a 150-600 on a mirrorless camera.

I'm considering a 35mm f/1.8 lens. It seems that there is no price difference between the Tamron and the Nikon. The tamron is a bit bigger and has VC which do not matter too much. Does anyone have a preference or anything similar for sale?

Well it's good to see that these great cameras are still being used - I hardly ever see another photographer with a D780 these days :( Here are a few from a recent charity track day at Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire.
First up is a genuine Ford GT40

Then a pretty rare Alpine A310, the driver of which is currently on his way to the start of the Peking to Paris rally

Next a very nice Porsche Boxter

Followed by a very rapid Westfield (that frightened the living daylights out of me when I grabbed a passenger ride)

And finally a Mazda MX5 with a 3 litre Jaguar engine under the hood and a very skilled driver behind the wheel

It was a great day, made all the better by the beautiful sunny weather and a whole host of drivers willing to take passengers for rides in their cars.

Nice photos! If people don't want their D780 anymore, I'm happy to adopt them! I can send my address by pm. I wish I could have bought a D780 but at this price I would probably have gone for mirrorless. The attraction of the D750 as well as being a good camera is that it can be added for 500£ or under.

My D780s are still my main cameras, and the D750 gets used too.

One from today with the D750 in DX mode.

That's my feeling as well. I still haven't decided what do with my slightly damaged D750, the D780 is the logical replacement given many second hand D750s now are pretty old and worn but the D780s are still relatively pricey, the hybrid mirrorless features aren't of much use to me when I have full mirrorless units that do the job fine. That is except for flashes, I bought a new Godox system and the Z8 is just as hopeless with the flash while the D750 is flawless so I'm going to need to keep an old F-mount body going. I'm still a bit tempted by some of the cheaper D780s with a high shutter count that look in generally good nick since I'm not going to put a huge amount of shots on.

Just add me to the list of dinosaurs. I've a D750 that I bought new in 2019 knowing it was a 'mature' camera... unless something befalls it I won't need another serious camera. The limiting factor is almost entirely me, and very occasionally the glass as I don't have a really good telephoto. By luck, not skill, I think I landed on the best compromise, the optimal solution, for me. Video is its Achilles heel apparently but that isn't a consideration for me.

The answer might be different if I had to earn my living by it, but it's my toy and I like it:)

Nikon has dropped the price of new 780s. I suspect it will get discontinued soon as Nikon goes more mirrorless. In the meantime, my 750 still works fine. I think another photographer was slightly disturbed by the sound of my D4S doing it's thing at high frame rate recently. His Sony doesn't sound like that. :)

D750 owner here, bought it when they first came out, did some wedding's, and have hardly been near it since my daughter came along 8 years ago. Only sent it away for the shutter replacement recall last year.

Hoping to get back into photography again, I just haven’t managed to kick it off. Completely out of touch now

I have two D750's in top condition that I have been thinking of moving on to go mirrorless, possibly something like the Nikon ZF. I also have a host of lenses too that need to go. I was hoping to move them on last year, but I had a couple of weddings to cover recently, so kept them until I got those out of the way. A small part of me feels like I should keep hold of them, but I also have a D300s that I have hoarded, so I think it's probably best to move on :)

D750 owner here and use it almost weekly in my rotations.

I bought when new and its still a far better camera than I am photographer.

The sensor is a classic IMO, I went for the D800e when that came out and yet still prefer the look of the 750 generated images. After the D800e I gave up chasing megapixels and remained with the same cameras ever since

I had a D750 a good few years ago and loved it. I upgraded to the Z6, which is a great camera, but I am just not using it and I am struggling to justify keeping it. I may move on my Z gear and get a D750 and a couple of primes. It is great to see there are still quite a few on here using the 750 and active on the forum.

I too moved to z6ii, and then got another body so the d750 is no longer getting used. Need to sell it but just lazy and hoping that one of kids may like to use it one day.
