Err those are pretty much the things I said, the 1/8000 is being hopefu I agree but who doesn' offer ospdaf?!

Nothing there that would tempt me to change. More megapixies would actually put me off - unless there was an option to choose between more than I'll ever need and enough.

More MP with the same noise output is hardly a big ask these days, maybe 30mp like the 5div

At what price? Well lets be sensible, everything has gone up in price so the "new" D750 will be more expensive. Those are not big asks, they are becoming standard.

Yes, less the higher MP, on sensor PDAF and 1/8000 shutter ;) It would be nice if Nikon actually sorted Liveview AF out but that's a bit of a pipe dream ;)

Ospdaf would be part of what you said (new af system, that's how I interpreted that as I know you also want it).

Even the 6dii has most of these things at a good price point. Nikon could easily do it and add a more high end sensor. Tbh Sony is driving technology and now making the big boys look like dinosaurs.

Look at the a9, that's all going to trickle down into cheaper bodies... canikon cant rely on the lens argument forever.

TBH you could buy an A7rii and an EOS 24 ART with MC11 and AF performance would be close to native. I was very surprised by the A7rii and 35 ART, that sensor is seriously good. I think I'm regretting selling my A7rii and bits now after reviewing all brands and pricepoints. Sonys Native lenses are expensive though, if Sigma pulled their finger out I'm certain Id get the A7riii or A9 and swallow the 3k cost.

Coming back to the D750 though, what a camera, APSC money for a FF camera that's still a very good performer 3 years on, shows what a good camera it is..... like the original D700. Might just buy another as a stop gap.

TBH after recently taking my Olly to NYC the benefits of decent live view AF, and the WYSIWYG could make me consider the Sony's. If only they'd sorted the buttons, ergonomics and lens prices out. Hopefully when Nikon get around to making a FF mirrorless they can make a better job in these areas. That being said, I still like looking through optics ;)

Have you tried an A7rii? I found it MUCH better than the A7 (crap), The A9 and A7riii are said to improve further, tbh Sony shouldn't have gone for the tiny approach in the first place and I think they have solved that now, esp with a grip if required. I think Canikons just been waiting for Sony to do the legwork. Tiny sounds good, but isn't after a few hours.

Tbh if it wasn’t for not having worldwide warranty and the risk of customs I might have contemplated it. After my D750 fiasco I need a good warranty where you don’t have to ship it back halfway across the world ;)
 
I'm a sucker for shooting into the sun so I love what you can do with the D750's files of backlit scenes.

I wasn't sure if this chap was being aggressive or looking for food when he jumped across the ditch. He let me scratch his head though. Then went off to play 'leap frog' with one of his yows.

The thing is ... Nikon did have Liveview AF sorted; albeit on 1" sensors. The problem for Nikon is the sensors were made by Aptina who was acquired by ON Semiconductors who (it appears) have / had no interest in higher end cameras. I think a lot of the sensor design technology is owned by Nikon so could be used in future (DX and FX) sensor designs if Nikon can find a manufacturing partner.

Now TowerJazz might be providing Nikon with a new (potentially exciting) alternative.

But Nikon have been using Sony sensors for a long time in their APS-C and FF cameras and Sony have had on sensor PDAF for quite a while.

Canikon are both lagging behind in video, the difference is Canon is improving usability with a touch screen and OSPDAF, so at least they are doing something,

The point is manufacturers are updating their AF, nobody wants a new camera without any updates. Canon 6d2 has 45 cross type AF points, Sony has gotten to the stage where its as good if not better than the competition. Are you suggesting Nikon shouldn't bother?

Yes, reliability is a problem for Nikon, pretty much every modern Nikon dslr has had a recall for main components like AF and shutter, then theres battery recalls.

Have you not noticed that everyone is increasing megapixels? Its a good thing, computers are more powerful, memory is cheaper, sensors can be higher MP than last gen without any IQ penalties.

It would be silly to suggest Nikon not make these improvements to a 3 1/2 yr old camera at refresh, Sony will soon become No.2 because Canikon haven't been innovating enough.

Aren't Sony No.2 already? I thought I'd read somewhere that they've leap frogged Nikon but knowing me I could be wrong ;)

Yeah, ideally every camera should upgrade all departments with each incarnation, I'm just not sure that the D750 successor will have more MPs as I'm not sure which sensor they'd use. I'm not aware of a Nikony 30mp sensor so they'd probably have to use the 36mp from the D810 I'd have thought, or an incarnation of it anyway.

I'm waiting to see if the D850 has any recalls, still early days yet. Did the D810 have any?
