Nikon D750 & D780

Filters - who uses them? Not talking UV, I'm talking the ND Grad stuff.

If you do - which brand? There seems to be lots, with prices varying quite a lot. I'm assuming the cheapo £15 kits from Amazon are s*** and you get what you pay for?

I promised myself I'd "do" more landscapes this year, and figured buying filters would give me cause to get out there more! :D

Any suggestions? Cokin okay?

I have a LEE 0.6 soft edge grad which is top quality. TBH I also have a set of XCSource grads which I used when I had my Fuji system and they were quite good for the price. Not sure I could tell much of a difference between them if I'm honest. I say set but I actually lost one down a cliff. :D

If you do go with Colin, don't forget it's the Z series you need for wider angles. Nisi is also a well regarded brand as is Hitech. Some have more colour cast than others so do your research but it can be removed in PP.

There is a 100mm holder and polarizer in the classifieds which I thought was a decent price, could be worth a look.

Thanks, mate, was hoping my post would catch your eye! :)

Wasn't aware of the difference between Cokin P and Z series, so cheers for the heads up. I've been looking at the Nisi ones, but they are a bit more than I'd be comfortable spending at this point in time - especially if all I'm going to do is lose them down a cliff ;)

I'll watch some more Youtube videos and go from there - might pick up that £15 quid set from Amazon anyway, just to see how I get on with them (y)

I have the Cokin P series and used them on my 35/2 as I didn't have the adapter size to use my LEE. Quite glad really as that could have been sailing down instead! I would have probably retrieved it if it was though.

This was using the Cokin:

EDIT: XCSource brand filters but in Cokin P size.

Cheers - definitely more reading required. There's a set of P series filters for sale here - might see if I can knock him down a bit - although I'm still debating over whether I want to shift my 70-200mm :runaway:, so may hold off until I've decided what bloody lenses I want.

Cracking shot, btw, congrats on the explore! :)

Managed another one today too. I guess the Df ain't all bad after all.

If you're gonna get into landscapes then I'd seriously reconsider selling the 70-200 unless you need the cash.

Look forward to seeing that one.

Yeah you're right - it does have its merits, good for isolating subjects.

Now - if only I had a lens in the I dunno, 24-85 range, to hand.... ;)

Stunning inversion in the Peak District this morning... looking forward to seeing your worldies @rookies

He is too busy doing research into whether the D750 will take good enough inversion images or whether there is a better camera out there:ROFLMAO:

I got a Nisi thing for my 20mm, but have gathering dust a cokin set of ND grads with holder etc (something I must actually put up for sale) ;)

Gawd, gimmie a few mins and I`ll go hunt them down (in one of the camera bags) ;)

Cokin P series (three filters and holder), with 77mm & 52mm adaptors :)

Oh dear so the Sigma let you down today my friend.. I am still deciding between the sigma and the nikon 200-500

I like this mate (y) As for the pooh fit, it could be down to contrast as the colouring is similar. Probably just freaked out a bit ;)
Yeah because when i got back at lunchtime i tested it out on the puppy and it af straight away.

I wasnt sure untill it flew off. i could be wrong but from the tail and underneath when it flew off i thought it was more buzzard.

Ive posted on the bird thread so we will see haha

That`ll be it then ... PITA innit when that happens. Bloody camouflage ;)

That buzzard looks more like a kite to me.

Its difficult to say with it perched but my first thought was that its a Red Kite, perhaps a juvenile. It's the grey face and feather colour/direction on the breast that made me think that. In flight it's a bit easier due to the tail fork of a red kite.

It's a nice image, one you have to be in the right place at the right time.

I've recently upgraded to the hitech resin filters and Firecrest 100mm filter holder. Very nice holder and filters are good too. Couldn't afford Lee or the Firecrest filters though, the standard hitech ones are dear enough. I got them on offer, not sure whether they're worth the full price.

Yeah I was driving through on the way to work an it was spectacular. Gutted I had to go to work and didn't have time to take any pics :(
