Nikon D750 & D780

Just had a look at the 17-35mm f2.8-4 DG Flickr group and it looks good to me

I'm sure it'll be fine, tests can be misleading and as twist says there's sample variation.

Gets decent enough reviews. Some say better than the Nikon, but depends if you want the extra reach. Similar sizes with the Siggy a tad heavier.

I find just looking at a sample pool more useful than scores TBH. Scores can be useful, but they tell you little about how a lens renders, what the colours are like etc etc. Sift through enough sample images and you start to build a picture of what a lens is like. Obviously you'll see some stunners, some shockers, and everything else in between

Again this is where tests can be misleading. DXO once more haven't tested the Sigma on Nikon, but in the 5D4 it scores a lot higher than the 24-120mm on the D750. But if you look at this, the Nikon looks sharper to me wide open at the long end, and that's with 15mm more reach. At 24mm it's pretty equal IMO, although the Nikon shows a lot more CA (can't say I've noticed this particularly on mine). Again though it's not comparing the same camera.

Cheers. It'd be replacing the 24--85mm, so I'd be getting 20 more mm anyway which, according to my wife, is quite a lot.

My 50mm 1.8 developed a weird colour cast over Xmas.

Tbh I don't think mine is set up right, needs someone with good eyes to fine tune this lens for me (I got Crap eyes) maybe have a nosey on over at my Flickr but I don't think there's too many on there tbh.

Yes have had two of them, one on the D750 and one before Christmas on my D810. I like the feel/look of Sigma lenses at present, but I have found some focus inconsistencies on them both, along with the 24-35mm f2 and found them hard MFA even with the dock..... I would get them good at one length and then knock it slowly out at the opposite length. I have also had three Nikon 24-120mm f4 and the first two (on D750) I thought they were just okay lenses, but the last one I had (on D810) was the best, but like a t*** I sold it and have regretted it. So in summary, the Nikon versions pips it for me, but I do prefer the contrast more with Sigma lenses.

I've heard mixed reports about the 24-120mm f4, and after chatting to someone whilst out taking landscapes I gave it a wide berth for a while. However, I decided to buy one eventually and glad I did as I've been very impressed with mine. Whether I've just got a good copy I don't know, but I like it Few examples taken with my 24-120mm

it's a very useful range and if you get a good copy it can produce very nice shots, as your images show.

Dunno if it me or what Exif in Flickr not showing for me again it happened once before... What Aperture was that at please and I guess you focus bridge of nose?

The exif has disappeared and i cant find the orignal either.

it would of either been 1.8 on the 50mm or 85mm, dont think i used the 70-200 for that one.

normally i aim for a eye tbh

Because the dog is looking straight on? So both eyes are of course in focus! Be something wrong if one wasn't!

Had a quick play with the D500 yesterday, didn't get on with the grip compared to the D750, felt more like the D810 which just didn't feel right with my knackered hand. At least it's put that bit of GAS for a 'backup' crop body to bed

Thanks chaps, seemed really pleased yesterday, were really happy with how I managed it during the day too They want an album so a bit more to do yet, but I had a fancy USB done for them with a slideshow and a dozen prints to give them an idea. Actually enjoyed doing this one, I think the workflow is a little better these days.

The key is enjoying it, I didn't relax on my first couple but did for the last one and the difference in pictures is massive!

Agree with this Tim. I was quite relaxed for this one, I knew there wasn't scope for anything ultra funky, just had to get the shots. I wish I had have not bothered with flash at all during the ceremony. Up to the ceremony I was bouncing off the ceiling just to take away the spot light effect. Those shots look so crisp and perfect. Took me a bit of faffing to find a look that was consistent in PP, but I can still see the difference. Also had a flash overheat for the first time right at th back end of the speeches, so ramping up the exposure to compensate gives a slight difference in look to a few of those. I had left the spares in my bag which wasn't feasible to get at quickly. Little things, but overall I'm happy.

Seeing as it was tipping down with rain here i decided to go through my ext harddrive and upload some of my old stuff from my d7100.

Forgot how capable it was in good light. You can definatley notice the difference at higher iso thou. Still dont regret getting the d750 thou
