Price probably
As above, price. It's not a lens I'll use much so don't want to pay a lot, but wasn't happy with the f1.8g until around f2.8 or so.What wrong with the Art version that is one hell of a lens.
Had one, wasn't great wide open IMO.If I wasn't getting the art, I'd get the nikkor 1.8g. Great lens.
So the same issue I had with the 85mm then?I had one, needed +20 to get it anything like but it was still off. It went back the day after. Nice rendering though.

Is the f1.4g no sharper than the f1.8g then?If you want wide open performance you'll have to pay for it eg the art. The 1.8 g was pretty good wide open and excellent closed down a smidge

Thanks. I'm not willing to shell out £500 on a lens that'll barely get used thoughI looked at which Nikon 50 to get and ruled out the 1.4 g as it wasn't significantly better than the 1.8g.
The 1.4 art is a different kettle of fish wide open though

Lol I know, but I wasn't happy with it. Maybe I should try another.Hence why I recommended the 1.8g [emoji6]

Apparently is had a larmor one but it was removed when the camera had to be sent back for a recall![]()
Thinking about getting the Sigma 50mm f1.4 EX (non Art) lens for the occasional portrait when space is limited, has anyone any experience with this lens and would like to share their views on rendering, AF speed and AF accuracy please?
It's between this and the Nikon 50mm f1.4g as both are similar prices used, but I think I have a slight preference for the Sigma's rendering.
Think I am going get the 50 1.8 Nikon too as I did like it what I had one.
Loughrigg Fell Sunset by -Rob'81-
Holme Fell clouds by -Rob'81-But for you thats 85mm!
I've got one but thinking of outing it after Christmas as never really gelled with it and the d750. Bought it when I had my d7000 and thought it was ok but nothing special, renders really nice but very soft wide open and that's how I tend to use it mostly. Not to bad stopped down a little and AF is reasonable but think I'll try the 85m art when funds allow.Thinking about getting the Sigma 50mm f1.4 EX (non Art) lens for the occasional portrait when space is limited, has anyone any experience with this lens and would like to share their views on rendering, AF speed and AF accuracy please?

Thought it was 76.5mm [emoji1] [emoji1]Nope it 75mm. Perfect portrait
1.5x crop isn't it, so 75mm?Thought it was 76.5mm [emoji1] [emoji1]
Yes 1.51.5x crop isn't it, so 75mm?
Technically 1.523435Thought it was technically 1.53x
Haven't posted any pics for a while, infect haven't taken many lately, lost a bit of motivation and have become a little frustrated as the end result rarely lives up to what I had envisioned. Still managing some of my favourite model, my 3yr old youngest grandson, and although I have never really liked most HiKey stuff I thought I would give it a go.

In terms of the final image there's not a huge difference, except the difference between Fuji and Nikon colours and of course in low light. AF-S in good light on the XT1 is nearly as fast as the D750, but in low light (and it doesn't have to be extreme) the differences quickly become larger. Also, forget using AF-C on the Fuji, it's a royal PITA. I recently went to London to visit my brother and I took some pics of my Niece and Nephew whilst they were playing. OMG what a pain. I'd press the shutter and it would take an age before if would lock focus and take the shot, very often missing what I wanted to capture. I know folk say that you can adapt and that you can take moving stuff with the Fuji, but honestly if you're coming from a camera with good AF-C you will pull your hair out with the Fuji. It'd be OK for panning where you have time and the subject distance doesn't move much, but I can't recommend it for anything else. We also went to winter wonderland and I tried to take my Nephew on various rides, I think of the ones that it did actually decide to capture less than half were tack sharp, and I would say at least 1/3 were missed focus all together.@snerkler - hi, don't know if this is the right place to be asking this, but what the hell...
How does your Fuji compare to the D750, aside from the obvious differences, I mean?
I'm contemplating "downsizing" and I like the look of the X-T Series, but wonder if I'd regret it. For what I shoot, and my technical ability, I'm sure the Fuji's are more than good enough but was hoping someone who actively uses both could point out the pros and cons? There's only so many Youtube videos I can watch before they all start repeating each other.
TIA.
I await the flaming with baited breath.![]()
No worriesThanks, Toby, knew you'd give an honest account (and thorough!).
I was leaning more towards the X-T2, because as you've said, if they AF is bonk with X-T1 I'd be bitterly disappointed trying to get shots of the little one - something which the D750 excels at.
I'd have to have a play with one be before committing as coming back to Nikon if it didn't work out would be expensive.
MPB have given me a fairly respectable quote for my gear, so at least I know what I'd be looking at.
Cheers again, I'll give it some more thought and see if I can get my mitts on an X-T2 after Christmas to have a play.
Going down to Cornwall this weekend and my sister has just had a baby, so I expect I'll fall in love with the D750 all over again!
Merry Christmas!
