Nikon D750 & D780

Well I haven't read every post but I have both.
IQ the 750 wins, but the 500 focus is much better.
I have never been impressed with the accuracy of the 750 Af, particularly at the outer focus points.
The D500 seems to nail it every time. And quicker. Personally I like D25.
Also, if you use AF on and BBF it is set up for this.
750 is the great all rounder. 500 is the sports/ wildlife machine.
As others have said, decent glass is also a significant factor.

Lovely shots, think I'll scrap the idea of a second camera and just use d750 and Sigma 35 for everything!

I should mention I sold the sigma recently to fund another jaunt with Fuji and the XT2.

It's a great lens, but for me the colours were always off and made getting it right in LR a pain in the arse.

Thanks! Not rushing in to anything just yet, but seems good arguments for both cameras.

So what would be a decent action lens for the D750 for equestrian if I didn't go DX? 70-300 is a bit old in the tooth, 70-200 f2.8 out of reach. How is the 70-200 F4 and 80-400?

Considering flirting with Fuji myself as a lighter secondary camera. Can't decide on the XT1 or XT10 so need to handle both. I hear so much about how wonderful Fuji colours are, can LR match this with the RAW files or do you need to shoot JPEG to keep the colours?

XT1 over the XT10 IMO. But hey, this is a D750 thread...:)

I like the weather sealing of the XT1, physical dials for everything and the large viewfinder. But the size/weight of the XT10 appeals, plus I can imagine I'd find the dial locks annoying on the XT1.

Oh yeah I forgot, sometimes it's everything but a D750 thread :lol:
 
Is the D750 due to be replaced anytime soon? Or will it be the current model for a while yet?

I've been following your D500 vs D750 questions with great interest. I was feeling a bit flush earlier in the year and decided I needed a D500 for wildlife shooting as well as the FF A7 for family photos. Now I love the D500 auto focus and the ergonomics of the body. I also love the FF look for family photos and the size of the A7 (although it never feels right in the hand). I don't have any decent glass for the Nikon and I don't do loads (as much as I'd like) of wildlife shooting. So considering been sensible and having only one camera, a FF Nikon that is great for days out/ family stuff and also good for wildlife. But would I miss the size or the A7? Would I miss the focusing and crop factor or the D500? It's hard to describe why I prefer FF photos but it's maybe because of the glass I have. Seems to make sense to stick to one manufacturer and one sensor size so that it can be built on in the future.

One thing to consider is the D500 does not have an auto mode. Not a problem for most people on here but I do like an Auto mode so that my wife or other family members can use the camera without me being there or me constantly changing settings and putting them off. I want to be in some of the pics with my kids, not just taking them!

There is no doubting that the D750 produces some of the nicest images I have seen from a camera and there is something special about FF.

For the most parts both cameras are pretty good at everything but cam do greater things in different departments.

The D750 is a great size and I think if you didn't use the A7 side by side it wouldn't feel as big as it probably does.

What makes it more difficult is that they are near enough the same price now. Looking at camera price buster the difference is £48 which makes choosing even harder as price is not a factor!

If you fancied an exchange or chat about the possibility of it drop us a pm. Then if we both decided one way of the other we could sort something out.

I think the difference you're seeing is far more to do with lenses and lighting rather than the difference between the sensor size tbh.

I have the 70-200 f4 and it is one of Nikon's better lenses. IMO the quality is noticeably better than the 70-300 but you lose some reach. With equestrian you do not need shallow depth of field as the focus is usually on the horse's face, a long face, so I would expect F4 would suffice (note, I have not shot equestrian).
The 80-400 is an expensive beast. I tried one but it was soft at the long end and returned it.
It also depends how far from the action you are standing as to which lens you think is the best fit for the job.

The 70-200 takes the 1.4 TC so that is another option.

I agree. I've had the D500 and D750 side by side for a month or so now and if I'm honest the IQ difference isn't that great in most situations. There's also a bit of tit-for-tat going on, the D750 is better at higher ISO but the D500 seems a bit sharper (maybe due to the lack of AA filter?).

The AF is quite different too and I much prefer using the D500 for sports/motorsport as to me there is a big difference in the AF especially tracking. But that does not mean that the D750 is bad, far from it in fact, but the D500 is unbelievable.

Trouble is Nikons DX lens range is far from exciting, there's nothing really apart from the 16-80 to pair with the D500

I suppose then for you're 80mm+ you just use FX glass

Initial impressions are very positive. 70-200mm needs no MA, 24-70mm has gone from needing +12 on the old one to +6 on this. AF on the 70-200mm is as sharp using the outer points as it is using the centre ones. Fingers crossed it stays like this :)

I've noticed they've changed the Fn button on the front slightly, more springy and feels slightly cheaper somehow. No biggie though, at least it works :)

On a side note, tried the XT10 today, felt a bit too small. Thinking the XT1 might be better after all ;)

Yep, just use FX glass. It's only the short zooms that's a bit difficult as 24mm on crop body is effectively 36mm so not that wide, you may have to stick to the 17-50mm f2.8s. Supposedly they're pretty good though.

Longer then 80 mm the advantages to building a DX lens have all but vanished. InLonger then 45mm or so they start to disappear. (I know there is a DX macro 85mm, why is another question)
 
I never shoot wide angle so a 16-80 and 70-200 would cover all I need (plus a 35 prime).

Its looking like 2017 may well be very much sports based to the D500 is becoming more appealing!
 
Well the D750 is going. So D500 will be on order soon. Then need to decide on zoom!

Will be following your journey and especially your glass choice. I don't want to sell my D500 but do wonder if I'd be better off selling the A7 and lenses and getting a D750 so that all lenses/battery's/chargers etc were compatible. Or just get a 16-80 for the D500. Gas!!
