Nikon D750 & D780

The best of a bad bunch. I spent last Sunday morning hiking in the Mourne Mountains here in Northern Ireland. Walking from 5.30 am to make it in for sunrise only
to find myself in cloud and mist until i got back to the car around 12. No light all morning, camera should probably have stayed in the bag. Opinions please.

1st one is good with a bit of foreground colour and the mist. 2nd is great 3rd is okay but even the dog looks bored with it ;)

Technically they look really good Phil. I like the third one best although better interaction with the dog would have been nice. Looks to be some lovely light in the distance. It always seems to be exactly where we aren't, eh? Some nice locations over there by the looks of things mate, definitely a place to revisit at sunrise/sunset.

VEry nice pics, just the light letting you down. For me the rock is a bit too tight at the bottom on the 3rd pic.

Thanks @minnnt. Yea, the light was better away in the distance and the clouds were clearing from the mountains just as I got back to the car. A few years ago I was up there every other weekend but now can't seem to find the time.

Haven't been to Curbar in a while, tomorrows forecast looks dire but Sunday morning looks like a possibility though.... Depends if there is a chance of an inversion or not. If there is i may head over to Chrome and Parkhouse.

Weather forecast looking good for this area tomorrow morning, not sure how you check if there'll be an inversion or not though? I've been wanting to do chrome and parkhouse for a while but not got there yet. I'm thinking Surprise View/Owler Tor again tomorrow as I've not recce'd any other area properly yet.

NO! Go somewhere new!
Plenty of areas I've not shot from around there so will be new ;) Won't have time to figure things out in the morning. Fingers crossed I wake up now ;)

Go to Mam Tor if you've never been before. Drive up Winnats Pass and turn right, follow the road around, past Mam Nick car park and then take a sharp turn right sign posted for lower booth. When you drive up and round, there is a bus stop on your right. Park there and it's only a 5-10 minute walk to the top.

Surprise view and OOT are a bit meh.

£10er says you don't go...

@phil_b some nice shots, for number 3 I would've moved beyond the rock (and dog) and shot the mountains from there, foreground interest is sometimes over rated. But a nice set, number 2 is lovely.

I'm not sure I can be bothered to head out for sunrise tbh.
I'm looking forward to it, bag's packed. Weather forecast not as promising now though.

I'm shooting a cycle race tomorrow for the local club who have organised an open race, 90 entered so far. Have to get the signing on from 8am, the 3 different categories starting at 9.00, 9.05 and 9.10, then race across back roads to get them at different points around the 14 mile circuit, back to the finish line for the end of the womens 3 lap race inc a camera on the line videoing in case it is a tight bunch finish and then the end of the other 2 groups 4 laps races shooting them head on and videoing across the line. Should be fun!

Thanks for taking the time to comment, all noted for the next time:)

Sounds good, I enjoy cycling events.

Well this morning was a bit of a bust, light wasn't good to say the least. Also, need to remember a torch next time, Mam Tor at 5.30am isn't easy to see where you're going ;)

Had some weird flare this morning, anyone know what's caused it? Didn't make any difference whether the lens had a filter on or not.

If that's the 18-35 that the EXIF suggests, then it's a feature of the lens when the sun is smack bang in the middle of the frame.:D

Thanks for this (y)

So I think I've got a new problem with my camera. On several shots part of the images was blurred like camera shake yet other parts are sharp. Looks like lens decentering but it's happening with different lenses and not all the time. So fed up with it, last Nikon I buy :(

Well done for getting out there Toby. Shame there was no inversion for your efforts. The flare is a strange one. As for the funny oof bits, no idea. Have they ballsed the sensor up with all the work they have been doing to it lately? Perhaps it's not sat flat? No idea though tbh.

That's quite a nice image you have there Dave. Good stuff.

@minnnt I don't think it'd be sensor as it'd appear on every image I'd have thought?

Looks like a double exposure line where there has been camera movement, wouldn't lens decentering just be soft on one side? There is clearly the tree/horizon shapes exposure in two places. Is it only occurring along the same mid band across the frame? I would phone the repair place to get it back in. The problems you have been having have been putting me off sending mine in.

It seems to be more or less across the same place I think, although did seem a bit higher in the frame on the 24-70 compared with the 24-120.

Well it's been in 5 or 6 times already each time with a new problem. I so wish we had the same laws as America as I just want shut of the camera TBH, it's never going to be right IMO. It's not just put me off sending it in, it's put me off Nikon entirely.
