Nikon D750 & D780

I have a problem with my D750, any ideas what could be wrong please.
Grabbed the camera as there was a large dragon fly in my garden and started clicking away when the camera froze again ( this has happened 2/3 times before but has always cleared when the battery is removed for a second) removed battery and reinserted about 5 times before it unfroze itself. The battery was quite low and I seem to recall someone saying it seemed to happen when battery low, so I replaced with what should have been a never used fully charged Expro battery that I brought from Amazon about 6 months ago. All was well for about 10 shots then the battery died. I suspected it may have been dodgy as when I charged it last week it was flashing really fast within about 30 minutes of going on charge, should have stuck to a Nikon spare.
Any way put the original battery back in to take a few final shots and after about 4 shots there was an ERR message coming up and it will not take a picture. You can use the menus, look at previously taken pics but cannot take any as the ERR message just keeps popping up each time you press the shutter.
I have removed and replaced battery many times, tried a different SD card but cannot remove the ERR message when pressing shutter.
Any ideas guys?

Damn.... Always happens at the wrong time got a couple of promised shoots in the next few weeks and then away on holiday. I thought it might be the shutter recall but have been putting it off for sometime as it didn't seem to be an issue. Never sent of for the first recall either even though it says it's affected. How long does the whole process take if I get onto the website tonight ( 2 weeks or more).

Yeah. I believe you have to wait for them to send you the postage label which can take a long time.

If you can muddle through then it may be best to wait until you have the shoots/holiday out of the way.

Have you tried a different memory card? Removing the lens? Cleaning the contacts? Etc etc...

If you contact Nikon and explain the need for your camera then they can push it through as urgent if you're lucky in which case it takes a week turnaround. Just be sure to check your AF system when you get it back ;)

Yeah tried all that, can't take anything shutter does not work so muddling through not an option. Do Nikon open on a Saturday and can you phone them or is it only by email.

I believe it's only Monday to Friday. I usually email but there are contact numbers. I think there's an option for live online chat too.

Well, after playing with the Fuji X-T1 for a wee while I went to the local butterfly house with the kids and thought, yep best bring a proper macro, so grabbed the D750 for the first time in a bit and it wasn't as heavy as I recall and it was odd going back to autofocus :)

Still the day did have its down when I got back and found my eye cup had gone walkabout - its the first time I've ever lost one but I know not the first in this thread, not by a long way, anyway Amazon Prime to the rescue - I've two coming tomorrow.

Anyway on to the pics...

The firsts a little mundane, but I liked the pot.

Giving some serious thought to picking up a D750 again to accompany my X-Pro 2 instead of an XT2, would keep the Fuji and a couple of primes for travel and everyday (23mm is ace!) and use the D750 for anything more serious probably with either a 24-70 or 24-120.

Been looking at prices on some of the mirrorless stuff v used DSLR full frame lenses and its just nuts the value there is in used Nikon and Canon FF kit just now.

Don't say that - I'm finally in the market for a D750 but can't really go to current new prices so looking at used.

A few of the shots I was taking when the camera went PHUT, all handheld with the Tammy 70-200 and heavily cropped so not as sharp as I would have liked.
This is a bit different from what I normally shoot.

Sorry for so many but might be a while before I have any pics to post.
Really like those, nothing wrong with the sharpness imo. OK they're not stacked macro lens sharp but I'd be more than happy with these.

Crikey, just looked at used at MPB, Wex and LCE range from £1200-1400  Why you'd pay £1400 for used when you can still buy them from Jessops, Currys and Parks new for £1390 is beyond me.

Hi Chris, I'm astonished at myself for writing this but if I'm right you're primarily a landscape shooter so I would have thought the XPro 2 coupled with something like a Samyang 12mm would give you what you need while keeping the weight down and being a much smaller package.

Not that I'm slighting the D750, even having the XT1 it's still the best camera I've owned (ah, if only they could get that EVF on the D750), but I don't see a great advantage over yours unless you plan to go wider, you certainly don't need a shallow DoF or all the weight from the lenses, although the improved high ISO handling and dynamic range could be helpful depending on the shot.

Just looked at email I got from Panamoz 10/1/16, D750 and 24-120 for £1375, now £1705 on Panamoz:eek:

Maybe this is why D750 stock's been few and far between and not all down to the earthquake, they've all been waiting for the price increase. That's a scandalous increase, just shy of 25%

That's what I paid but they gave me the 3% discount after it had ended because I already had a quote so It came down to £1333 :)

Its nuts isn't it? Very few in stock across the UK though

Yes mainly landscape but also done a few events this year too which the X-Pro 2 has been fine with. My issue isn't so much with the equipment (although some extra dynamic range wouldn't go a miss, the D750 is a demon in Lightroom, the X-Pro 2 is not) but the cost of things just for smaller size, The Fuji glass is first class but when I look to what I was using with the D750 there just seems a lot of value there at the moment, I just dropped close to £1200 on a 50-140 f2.8 which is a great bit of glass but its also nuts when I consider that the Tamron 70-300 on D750 was less than £300 and I was more than happy with it. I feel outside the "Pro" Fuji zooms that their other zooms aren't up to it (55-200 I didn't like at all), and even the 16-55 f2.8 which is a great bit of glass is now £850, the Tamron is less than £700... just seems to me that I might now be paying the price for size alone and actually for some things the Nikon would do a better job.

Its scary how much they've gone up!

Yeah I've been thinking that, assume if one is ordered at the current price that it would be honoured when new stock is available.

Prices are silly. Think it's down to the weakening pound after Brexit. Really don't want to pay new price for used but can't stretch to current new prices just yet.
May have to wait a bit and see if prices go back down at all.

Its probably going to get worse if anything, Sony just ramped up their prices by 10-20% across the range and I'd expect others to follow suit shortly, trying to get my buying done before then as it will impact used prices too.

Using my 24-70/2.8 a bit more these days.

I'm in 2 minds as to wether to sell my D750, I'm just not using it as much as I thought I would although I love it when i do use it. Apparently it's affected by the second recall but I can't find any problem no matter how hard i try. It was bought from Panamoz so the warranty is transferrable. Question is would it sell better if I sent it in and had the repair done or would it be best to transfer the warranty to the new owner so they would effectively have a new shutter when it suited them?

Guess it would be down to the buyer. I'd want it done before buying did hassle free ownership, others may be different ;)

I keep toying with selling mine and getting a D810 but I don't think I ever will o_O

Yeah, l keep thinking maybe I should sell it, but then I pick it up and use it and change my mind ha. Head says let it go, heart says the complete opposite.

Only you can decide, but if you're unsure and don't need the cash then don't rush.

Anyone know of any safe dark sites to camp in my van in the Brecons. Going up to wales for a funeral next Wednesday and the Perseids meteor shower peaks on the 11th/12th and 12th/13th. Two years ago I stayed at Llanthony Pryory Campsite but there's no view. I aslo found a camp field by Pen y Fan no facilities but looks dark.

PS not looking for campsites as such but more of a safe dark site where it is okay to set the van up for the night and not get moved on or hassle.

We found a resevoir, that was completely dark but I can't remember the name of it, you'll get away with the van, it's a dead end road but plenty of space, IIRC there's a small car park. I'll find out if you want?

If you could that would be great. Thanks :)

Would that be Tal y Bont reservoir? I've been there for night shots and it's a great place:)
