Nikon D750 & D780

Strictly speaking, I think this was the 610. But, it's the 24-70 which is ok. Not quite as snappy as my primes but it's good for a round the house grab-a-snap shot of the little lady..

These where taken with the Nikon 70-200mm MkII

I have some more panning shots but I've not done cars for a whilst so couldn't get a clean image at 1/60 but as they say practice makes perfect(ish)

Sounds good. Just shot the Sheffield Cycling Grand Prix tonight, always a good turnout. Didn't pick a very good location this time for the main event, and just had a mare with the camera so a pretty frustrating evening, although the actual race was good :) Plus I now know where to and where not to stand ;)

So what speed was the 488 shot at as it looks very crisp to me?

@rookies same camera and lens combo as you have already, just shows what it can do (y)
 
70-200 pricing?
Looking at CPB there seems to be a bit of a difference between a few and then wex is mad money ... JL and a few are £1579 and wex is like £1799
Oooh shall I ?
 
Just sat watching another awesome sunrise here out the kitchen window, if I could persuade our 1 year old to sleep past 5.30 I could get out to shoot a few:mad:

Thanks Paul and wish you good light with the 70-200 2.8. It is not light, but it produces some brilliant light based capture [emoji1]

Thanks Phil. It is indeed a pain. Didn't realise how much stuff we have until we started packing. Then there is unpacking and all the things that comes with owning a house [emoji1]
 
Forgot to mention. I asked Nikon about the shutter reset after having the shutter replaced and they said that they don't do this as the shutter count shows the wear on all of the other mechanisms within the camera. @minnnt sound like you got a good deal sending it off to Lehmanns ;)

Probably due to the VR2 being discontinued, new version is coming soon although not sure how much they can do to improve it.

I think mine was completely replaced though as it was really broken rather than just a precautionary repair. It would happen every time the camera was switched on. It was also starting to appear in shots even if it didn't lock shut. Basically it was f***ed.

Looking how the f4 compares against it in terms of mid frame and corner sharpness I would think they would try to have improved this as they don't really want their 'little brother' to out perform their pro lens. I wonder if they'll address the focus breathing too, not that I've ever noticed it on mine ;)

Whatever improvements though I won't be upgrading, I love my 70-200 :)

Not good. My impression from Nikon was that they never zero the shutter count though as this indicates wear on other parts too, so not just the shutter. Maybe having the screen replaced reset the whole software back to 'new'. Either way, good news for you (y)

Obviously I'm only relaying the info from Nikon :p Would've been nice to have had mine reset for future resale, but at this present moment all I'm interested in is getting a camera that works ;)

The focus hit rate doesn't seem to be a good as my primes? I'd like to think that I'm not too bad with nailing it most of the time, but then she is growing quickly and moving a little more. I have only been using it wide open since I've had it and I can tell that it's not quite as sharp as my 35/50/85 at 2.8, but certainly not soft. Speed of focus is slightly slower too but no big deal that, just reiterates the love for my primes. I think I only need the 58 or siggy 50 to complement the set.
 
Sounds to me like you have a dud mate. The f1.4 Nikons are well known for being slower to focus so if the 24-70 is slower still it is not right. It's one of the fastest focusing lenses Nikon has ever made.

Just tried a couple of unscientific tests and I can't discern the difference, maybe I'm being a little harsh. It's not enough to think there's a problem.

As minnnnt says the 24-70 is super duper fast, almost instant. TBH I have always found primes to be slower to focus, but then I've only used a handful of Nikon primes.

TBH trying to shoot a couple of cycling and motorsport events with the 24-120mm I'm considering trading it in against the 24-70mm for the AF speed, although I would miss the extra reach :facepalm:

I`m happy with that though, and used to have a VR1, so can only be good for me. I would assume corners and focus breathing would be addressed, but I doubt I would personally notice. Still I reckon it was a pretty good price, and an extra years warranty to boot ;)

Are these the F1.8 primes? If so I think the AF on them is great, the 85 is perhaps a little slow at times compared to the 35. My 35 was just as quick as my 24-70

The 50 is the 1.8; the 35 & 85 are both 1.4.

The lens seems to make a double click on focus, whereas the primes lock on in one click (obviously in good light). It's nothing that would cause me an immediate issue but I will keep an eye on it.
 
I think the 70-200 VR2 is way sharper than the 24-70 2.8 which is supposed to be sharper than the 24-70VR?

Having shot the 24-70 at 2.8 on a D3s, if that shot was taken on a sigma 35 1.4 @ 2.8 I'd think I mis-focused! It's why I never bothered buying the 24-70 myself.
