Nikon D750 & D780

Well, I'm happy to confirm the Kood filters aren't bad for £18. The soft grad is a bit "meh" in terms of gradient and therefore usefulness (IMO) but the consistency of darkening seems pretty good - minimal cast.

I've written up a bit more of a review here: https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/t...-filters-plain-soft-grad-quick-review.625003/

I'd definitely recommend them for anyone with a 100mm filter holder who wants to add any new filters. I'm going to buy a couple more now.

I'm considering the 45. The bokeh looks lush. Could get one for about £370 i think.

When I tried one at the photography show, I found it focuses slower than the Nikon 50 1.4g, but it is a very nice focal length.

And the Nikon users thought they had it bad...

Effective of 1st June there will be a general price increase by 2.7% on all imaging products, with some exceptions. Six mid-range DSLR models will see an increase between 6% and 11.5%, and 38 lenses will increase between 11% and 12.7%.

Is that for Canon?

Still not as bad as some Nikon, the 70-200mm went up over 16%

Yes, 6% and 11.5% hike on already (more) expensive cameras. Canon 70-200 with rise £1685 vs Nikon £1579.
hmm the 70-200 price is all over the place. Was £1799 the other day but just seen Jessops at £1579

Stupid thing is DSLR system sales are in decline, youd think theyd be lowering prices rather than taking the P on lines that they've recouped R&D costs on ages ago. Good news for those getting rid though.

Yep, doesn't make sense. Or maybe they've seen that folk still buy Sony despite their prices and think they'll cash in too ;)

I can't make my mind up about this one. Which probably means it's crap!

I've been offered a SIGMA 28-200mm f3.8-5.6 (nikon fit obviously) but I can not find out if its suitable for Full Frame in terms of not cropping to DX format. Would anyone here know if it is a full frame lens there are no Dc or DG markings

Think it's an old lens for 35mm film cameras so will work with FF if that's the case.

Hmmm I think you'd be surprised, not all older 3rd party lenses function correctly with newer bodies. LV and or AF could be problematic. Try before you buy.

It will cover FF Mark, as it was originally designed for film cameras. Might be a good idea to try and check it out before you buy as these lenses did vary a bit on quality control. If you got a good one then it was more than acceptable, but some were not very good optically.

Hope this helps.,

George.

I didn't say all functions would work, just that its work and is FF compatible :p Joking aside a quick search shows that AF does work, although can't find any info on LV. Parts aren't available anymore though so buy with caution.

I know it's been answered above, but usually walkabout zoom lenses starting at 28mm are for full frame cameras and lenses starting at 18mm are usually for crops. Obviously this changes with wide angle lenses.

Hmmmm, it's on my list for next year too. I'm assuming it's the exchange rate that's instigating, therefore grey prices should remain unaffected? Need a 24-70 first so I shall keep a close eye on it.

A few pages back @T_J_G asked me to do a mono version of a shot of one of the Lola's... Finally got around to uploading it.

Quality, pure quality. I would have never of thought of cropping a shot like the last one but it really works well.

Can't remember if I asked before, or thought about asking before but how close are you as it almost looks as though you're trackside beyond the barrier. Not so much with how close you are (although some of these are really close) but more with how low you have managed to get with some of the shots (especially some of the others)

Ok, I've been playing around with Photoshop to get a "style" I like for portraits etc. I've been using the gradient map (on low opacity) to tone down skin tones as generated by the D750 and as emphasised by my lighting setups.

I'm keen to get views, so thought this thread would be a good place to ask :)

Here is the finished product which has some smart sharpen applied selectively, a curves adjustment and the gradient map I've created:

And here is the SOOC with the softbox poking into frame :) - obviously the first thing to fix was the white balance

What do you all think to the processing style? The map basically applies a tint and variable desaturation which I rather like, but it might be somewhat marmite...
Which camera calibration settings are you using on import? You may find a different one gets you closer to the end result with less work.

I like it, btw.

Lol, steady on mate. I stole the idea from @ukaskew although he nails his where as mine are crapola. :D
I think you have a serious issue in seeing the merit of your own work ;)

Did you see my edit about your position trackside?

I linked a post above about Nikon prices, it seems as if Nikon have increased their prices Euro / worldwide. A grey D750 from Panamoz is currently £1173.00, it was around the £1038 mark at the beginning of the year.

Grey prices have risen by quite a lot, the exchange rate definitely having an effect, I purchased some items from Panamoz a couple of months ago for £1500 are now £1600 also some Nikon stuff seems to be in short supply at the moment I couldn't find a genuine MB16 for my D750 anywhere ended up with a copy

I missed the original from Paul (easily done in this thread, had 3 manic days at work and had pages to catch up!)

Personally, I prefer to set up a profile in LR. I find it a PITA to copy those adjustments layers across multiple images. The curve control isn't as responsive as in PS but once you have a tone that can be saved (think I have a dozen curves saved as a preset) and colours are easily tweaked. I tend to dip into PS purely for cleaning up, if I want to go to that length.

I wish i was beyond the barrier. If only! Donington is a pig for fences so the closer you can get to them the better it is as it helps to remove it from the shot. Shooting at somewhere like Oulton Park is a breath of fresh air by comparison. For someone like yourself with a 600mm lens at your disposal it is less of an issue as the FL helps massively. For rallying you are quite literally on the edge of the stage and offers more creativity imo although you can only work with what you're provided with.

Thanks. Well you've done really well with the Donny shots, I like how you get OOF foreground in. I used to go all the time as a kid but I only had a Nikon RD2 at the time  I have been back once, ten years ago, to watch the Moto GP but I hadn't taken up photography then (only took it up just over 2.5 years ago), about time I revisited. Not as though it's far  :$
